IPL 2025, SRH vs DC, Highlights: Rain plays spoilsport; SRH eliminated while Delhi on 13 points

IPL 2025, SRH vs DC, Highlights: Pat Cummins’ economical 3/19 goes in vain as rain ends Sunrisers’ playoff hopes; Delhi Capitals earn a crucial point.

Brief scores: Delhi Capitals 133/7 (Ashutosh Sharma 41 (26), Tristan Stubbs 41 (36) Pat Cummins 3/19; no result)

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) became the third team to get eliminated from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after their clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) was washed out on Monday, May 5.

Highlights from SRH vs DC game, IPL 2025

Cummins & Unadkat ran through DC top order
The early damage was done by the pace duo of Pat Cummins and Jaydev Unadkat, who dismantled the opposition’s top order with precision.

Cummins struck early by removing Karun Nair for a duck, followed by key wickets of Faf du Plessis for just 3 runs and Abishek Porel for 8, putting immense pressure on the batting side.

Unadkat complemented the attack perfectly, accounting for KL Rahul’s dismissal for 10 runs, ensuring that the batting lineup never got a foothold in the game.

Ashutosh & Stubbs rescue DC’s total
In an otherwise shaky batting display, Ashutosh and Tristan Stubbs provided a much-needed boost to Delhi Capitals’ innings, building a partnership that gave their bowlers a fighting chance.

Ashutosh Sharma played a brisk and impactful knock of 41 runs off just 26 deliveries, injecting momentum into the innings, while Stubbs held his end firmly with a steady 41 off 36. Together, they pushed the total to a respectable score, giving DC something to defend despite the early setbacks.

Qualification Scenario for SRH & DC after abandonment of Match 55
Delhi Capitals, currently placed 5th on the points table, are still in the hunt for a playoff spot but face a do-or-die situation. After a dominant start to the season where they looked nearly unbeatable, DC established themselves as one of the most balanced and threatening sides in the tournament.

However, a string of inconsistent performances has put their qualification at risk. With matches remaining against Punjab Kings (PBKS), Gujarat Titans (GT), and Mumbai Indians (MI), DC must win all three to stay in contention.

If they manage to recapture their early-season form, they could not only qualify but also pose a serious challenge to any opponent in the knockout stage, potentially becoming the dark horses of the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s playoff hopes were officially extinguished after their crucial match against Delhi Capitals was abandoned due to rain. Sitting at 9th on the table, SRH needed a win to keep their slim chances alive, and the washout ended any remaining hopes of a late surge. Despite some impressive individual performances and flashes of competitiveness, SRH struggled with consistency throughout the season. The abandonment was a disappointing end to what could have been a potential turnaround, and they now shift focus to finishing the tournament on a strong note and planning for a more cohesive campaign next year.
