IPL 2025, GT vs SRH, Highlights: Top order runs, Prasidh’s 2-19 take Gujarat to second spot

IPL 2025, GT vs SRH Highlights: Gill, Buttler and Prasidh Krishna star as Gujarat Titans climb to second in the points table.

Brief Scores: GT 224/6 (Shubman Gill 76, Jos Buttler 64, Jaydev Unadkat 3/35) beat SRH 186/6 (Abhishek Sharma 74, Prasidh Krishna 2/19, Mohammed Siraj 2/33) by 38 runs.

Put into bat first in the 51st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Gujarat Titans (GT) posted 224/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Three half-centuries from the top three batters set the platform for the 2022 champions on a surface that looked good for a high-scoring affair.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), in reply, made a solid start in the powerplay with 57/1. But apart from Abhishek Sharma (74), none of the visiting batters could have an impact in the middle overs. Despite some big shots in the death overs, Sunrisers fell short of the target by 38 runs. It was their fifth successive defeat against GT in Ahmedabad in six games.

Highlights from GT vs SRH game, IPL 2025

Buttler-Shubman make the most of favourable conditions
The GT captain, Shubman Gill, looked to be aggressive from the beginning. On the second ball of the first innings, he flicked Mohammed Shami for a six over backward square to send a strong message. He cracked two successive boundaries against Pat Cummins, the SRH leader, to offer the side a rapid start in the powerplay.

Gujarat ended with 82/0 after six overs. After Sai Sudharsan’s dismissal, it was important for the new batter to continue the rhythm. Jos Buttler was the perfect replacement at the crease. He scooped Shami over fine leg for a six before Gill celebrated his fifth fifty of IPL 2025.

Once the India opener was dismissed on 76 runs, shouldering 10 boundaries and two sixes, Buttler’s responsibility increased. He clubbed Harshal Patel at mid-off for a four before slamming him for a six over long-on. The former England captain contributed with 64 runs in 37 balls and made sure that Gujarat would cross the 220-run mark.

Poor fielding and bowling continue to hurt SRH
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s poor season continued against Gujarat. They looked off-colour in both the bowling and fielding departments. Leaking five boundaries in the third over didn’t set the stage right for the visitors at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The next couple of overs went for 35 runs. They gave away 82 runs in the first six overs.

Neither Gill nor Sudharsan played any fancy shots. Jaydev Unadkat dropped Buttler early on his fourth ball, where he got low too quickly, missing the catch. Hyderabad’s line and length to the Titans’ top three were not up to the mark. Cummins himself dropped the England wicket-keeper batter on 22.

Since his return from injury, Shami has yet to crack the T20 code. He went for 48 runs in three overs without any success against GT. Their fielding lacked desperation unlike the home side, who dived for nearly every single chance to save a run. That was a huge difference between the two sides in the game.

Prasidh’s 2-19 stood out in the run-fest
With Hyderabad getting a strong opening stand in the powerplay, it was important for one of the Gujarat bowlers to hold one end. Prasidh Krishna, the leading wicket-taker of the season, was excellent in the job. He didn’t leak runs in a game where most of the other bowlers crossed the economy of eight.

In his third ball of the spell, Krishna sent back Travis Head for 20. The Australia southpaw looked to pull the short ball but didn’t get the desired elevation. Rashid Khan ran a huge distance to grab a fine catch.

His next two overs went for just 10 runs, which increased immense pressure on the batters in the high-scoring chase. Krishna picked up another vital wicket of Heinrich Klaasen (23) to script the victory by 38 runs.

Way forward
With the victory, Gujarat get to the second position on the points table with a net run rate of +0.867. Their playoff qualification is nearly confirmed as they will now shift their focus to the top two positions. They will fly to the Wankhede Stadium for the next clash against the Mumbai Indians on May 6.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad’s season has almost ended. They would need four successive victories in the rest of the season, besides expecting a few results to go in their favour. SRH will host the Delhi Capitals for their next fixture on May 5 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
