IPL 2025, RR vs MI, Highlights: Sustained aggressive batting, powerplay bowling fetch 7th win for MI

IPL 2025, RR vs MI, Highlights: Suryakumar-Hardik’s 94-run stand and pace attack power Mumbai to sixth straight win and top of the table.

Brief scores: MI 217/2 (Ryan Rickelton 61, Riyan Parag 1/12) beat RR 117 (Jofra Archer 30, Karn Sharma 3/23) by 100 runs.

Mumbai Indians stormed into Jaipur and delivered a dominant performance, securing their first win at this venue since 2012. It was a one-sided affair as the Men in Blue outclassed Rajasthan Royals in every department, cruising to their sixth consecutive victory and rising to the top of the table. For RR, however, their journey ends here, as they become the second team after CSK to be eliminated from the tournament.

Highlights from RR vs MI, 50th Match, IPL 2025

Surya-Hardik continued the fireworks
After Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton laid a solid foundation with a 116-run opening stand, Suryakumar Yadav (48) and Hardik Pandya (48) carried the momentum with an unbroken 94-run partnership in just 46 balls. The duo gave the finishing touches to Mumbai Indians’ innings with their whirlwind knocks.

Suryakumar continued to impress with his unique scoring style, especially behind the wicket. Hardik played a crucial knock, getting back among the runs just in time before the playoffs. It’s crucial for key players to hit form, and promoted up the order, skipper Hardik led from the front with a composed and well-paced knock to finish strong. Despite a tough pitch and disciplined spells, the pair maintained a high run rate, capitalized on key moments, like a 21-run over off Fazalhaq Farooqi, and ensured MI posted a formidable 217/2.

Bumrah-Boult ran through the top-order
Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult wreaked havoc as Rajasthan Royals faltered in their chase of 218, struggling to even reach 100. They were instrumental in dismantling RR’s top-order, leaving them struggling to build partnerships. The duo breathed fire during the powerplay, with Bumrah striking twice in his first over and Boult getting a wicket in each of his two overs, as the Royals were reduced to 62/5 after 6 overs.

Chop, Changes & Inexperience hurting RR bowling
Rajasthan Royals’ frequent changes in their bowling lineup are impacting their performance. Today, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Akash Madhwal have been included in the squad, while key players like Sandeep Sharma, Tushar Deshpande were absent. Similarly, the Sri Lankan bowler Wanindu Hasaranga is sometimes included, and sometimes not. At times, all these bowlers play, while in other matches, none are featured. This lack of consistency, coupled with the inexperience of bowlers like Kumar Kartikeya and Madhwal, has allowed the opposition to exploit their weaknesses. Though some bowlers, such as Farooqi and Jofra Archer, show promise, constant rotations disrupt the team’s stability.

Riyan Parag must work with Rahul Dravid and the management to reduce these changes, especially when playing on home turf. Consistency, like Mumbai’s steady approach with their bowling unit—is essential for building team stability and ensuring success. If RR continues this chopping and changing, it could jeopardize their campaign.

Conclusion
Rajasthan Royals’ loss highlights several areas they need to work on. Their batting has been inconsistent, with key players failing to deliver in crucial moments. The bowling lineup’s constant changes and lack of stability have also hurt them, allowing opposition teams to capitalize on weaknesses. Additionally, an over-reliance on a few key players, combined with the absence of a genuine all-rounder, limits their flexibility. To turn things around, RR needs to stabilize their playing XI and focus on consistency.

Meanwhile Mumbai Indians’ win boosts their momentum and playoff chances, pushing them to the top of the points table. Their strong all-round performance reinforces their bid for a record sixth IPL title.
