IPL 2025, DC vs RCB, Highlights: Kohli-Krunal steer RCB to victory in tricky chase, move to top of the table

IPL 2025, DC vs RCB, Highlights: Virat Kohli, Krunal Pandya fifties and Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 3/33 take RCB to the top of the table.

Brief scores: DC 162/8 (KL Rahul 41, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 3/33) lose to RCB 165/4 (Krunal Pandya 73 not out, Axar Patel 2/19) by 6 wickets.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) jumped to the top of the points table after a hard-fought win over Delhi Capitals (DC) in Delhi in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Sunday.

RCB first restricted DC to 162/8 before chasing down the target with 6 wickets and 9 balls to spare. Bhuvneshwar Kumar shone with the ball with 3/33, while Krunal made 73 not out as RCB won the sixth game out of their six away fixtures. Meanwhile, Delhi dropped down to the fourth spot.

Highlights of DC vs RCB game, Delhi, IPL 2025

Stubbs’ 34 gives Delhi a total to defend
Tristan Stubbs came out to bat at No 6 when Delhi were struggling at 102/4 in the 14th over. However, run-scoring was difficult on a two-paced wicket. Stubbs waited till the 18th over after Delhi were reduced to 120/6 to unleash the carnage.

He cracked two fours off Josh Hazlewood’s bowling in the 18th over to seize the momentum from Bengaluru. In the 19th over, he smacked two fours and one six off Yash Dayal to improve Delhi’s hopes of putting up a decent total. Stubbs cracked another four in the 20th over before falling to Bhuvneshwar.

However, Stubbs’ cameo of an 18-ball 34 helped Delhi put up a fighting total of 162/8. He scored five fours and a six during his knock. However, what was important to note about Stubbs’ knock was his ability to get the big hits going on a two-paced wicket even as his teammates struggled to rotate the strike.

Bhuvi, Hazlewood make Delhi struggle
Once again, it was Josh Hazlewood who gave RCB the breakthrough with the wicket of Abhishek Porel in the fifth over. It broke a dangerous opening stand of 33 runs scored in a run-a-ball. Hazlewood was miserly in his first spell of two overs, giving away 12 runs for the lone wicket.

Hazlewood took another wicket in the middle-overs in Delhi captain Axar Patel. Although he gave away 17 runs in the last over at the death, he bowled consistently well to keep RCB in the game.

Bhuneshwar Kumar also stood out in slowing down Delhi’s innings. Bhuvi went for runs in the first spell of 2 overs in the powerplay when he conceded 25 runs for no wickets.

However, Bhuvi lifted his game at the death overs. Bowling the 17th over, he dismissed a well-set KL Rahul before dismissing Impact Player Ashutosh Sharma a few balls later. He was bang on in the 20 over, conceding just 5 runs and dismissing the dangerous Stubbs. In the second spell of 2 overs, Bhuvi took three wickets for eight runs. He ended up with 3/33 in 4 overs.

Krunal, Kohli control tricky chase
Chasing a tricky target of 163 on a difficult pitch, RCB were off to a poor start, losing three wickets for 26 runs in four overs. Krunal Pandya then joined opener Virat Kohli in the middle, and the two put up a match-winning stand of 119 runs to steer the team home.

The two first rebuilt the innings, focusing on the ones and twos and getting the odd boundaries. But as the run-rate climbed up, Krunal Pandya opened up, while Kohli held one end up. The left-right combination also played into their hands as Delhi captain Axar Patel held back leg-spinner Vipraj Nigam as the bowler went for 12 runs in his solitary over.

The momentum shifted in RCB’s favour when Krunal hit two straight sixes off Mukesh Kumar’s bowling in the 13th over of the innings. Krunal grew in confidence, hoisting a six off the next over bowled by Kuldeep Yadav.

For once, Krunal overshadowed Kohli with his stroke-making, smashing five fours and four sixes in his 73-run knock. Kohli played a big supporting role, falling for a 47-ball 51 but not before RCB had the game in their grasp.

Way Forward
RCB have jumped to the top of the points table, having won seven games out of 10 matches so far. They need at least one more win out of four games to be in contention for a play-off berth.

However, RCB would look to win as many games as possible to confirm a top-two finish. They’ll now face Chennai on May 3.

Delhi, on the other hand, dropped down to No 4 spot with 12 points out of 9 games. They are very much in the hunt for a play-off berth despite the loss. They need to win at least 2 more matches to stay in hunt for a play-off berth. Delhi now face Kolkata on April 29.
