T20 World Cup 2026, IND vs SA: South Africa dominate India in their opening Super 8 clash, exposing gaps in execution and strategy.

Brief Scores: SA 187/7 (David Miller 63, Dewald Brevis 45, Jasprit Bumrah 3/15) beat IND 111 (Shivam Dube 42, Marco Jansen 4/22, Keshav Maharaj 3/24) by 76 runs.
Player of the Match: David Miller
Both India and South Africa finished as table toppers of their respective groups in the T20 World Cup 2026. The Proteas, having venue familiarity heading into their opening Super Eight clash of the campaign, were perhaps the happier of the two unbeaten sides. The game took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
South Africa’s captain, Aiden Markram, won the toss and decided to bat first on a surface which he claimed would remain the same for the entire game. India skipper Suryakumar Yadav also wanted to bat first but was not disappointed with using the early evening swing. It was, surprisingly, a surface similar to what was used between these two sides in December last year when 432 runs were scored in 40 overs.
The Proteas got back their regulars with Keshav Maharaja, Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen, and David Miller returning to the eleven. It was a harsh yet tactical decision from the management to keep Axar Patel on the bench as the hosts retained the same playing eleven.
Talking point: India’s vulnerabilities get exposed in pressure situations
India crumbled under pressure in the first tough game of the campaign. They failed to apply the same aggressive mindset that they worked on for the last 18 months. It was the exact picture with several individual players with both bat and ball. It would be important for the seniors to stand and deliver in the do-or-die situation from hereon.

David Miller rescue South Africa to 187/7 after shaky start
India were excellent in the first four overs, sending back the top three Protea batters for only 20 runs on the board. But Miller walked into the middle with unfinished business from their last T20 World Cup meeting.
From the very first delivery, the southpaw didn’t drop intensity as he shared a vital 97-run fourth-wicket stand with Dewald Brevis. The latter notched up 45 runs in just 29 balls with three boundaries and as many sixes.
Meanwhile, Miller celebrated his ninth T20I fifty in just 26 balls with a six over deep backward point. After his dismissal, the Rainbow Nation briefly struggled to get back into rhythm. But Tristan Stubbs’ two consecutive sixes propelled them to 187/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Clinical South Africa bundle out mindless India for 111; seal 76-run victory
Just like South Africa, India also made a nightmarish start in the chase. But the Proteas didn’t allow the Blue Brigade to come out of the hole. Since losing Ishan Kishan with no run on the board in the fourth delivery of the game, India kept making the same mistakes. Once the pressure was high, they fell like a pack of cards and found themselves limping at 57/5 at the halfway mark.
It was the ginaOnce Keshav Maharaj sent back both Hardik Pandya and Rinku Singh. Shivam Dube played some big shots, but those hardly made any difference. The hosts got bundled out for 111 as the Proteas completed a 76-run win.

Really disappointing performance from Team India today. The batting struggles were exposed by South African bowlers, but honestly, this has been a recurring issue throughout the World Cup.

All it took Keshav Maharaj was one over to win the game for South Africa. And we dropped our vice captain because of the presence of lefties in the Protea batting lineup! Sometimes I feel we tend to read too much into this frenzy of match ups in T20 cricket #INDvSA

South Africa today showed they have a high class overall bowling attack, no bowler the opposition can go after. Can't say the same about India, they have at least two weak links. Two bowlers who batsmen can take liberties.
