IPL 2025, RR vs GT, Highlights: Gujarat clueless against Vaibhav blitzkrieg; Rajasthan win

IPL 2025, RR vs GT Highlights: Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s 35-ball hundred, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 70 power RR to stunning 16-Over chase against Gujarat.

Brief scores: GT 209/4  (Shubman Gill 84, Jos Buttler 50*, Maheesh Theekshana 2/35) lost to RR 212/2 (Vaibhav Suryavanshi 101, Yashasvi Jaiswal 70*, Rashid Khan 1/24) by 8 wickets.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) completed a famous run chase courtesy of a stunning knock by a 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The young left-hander along with Yashasvi Jaiswal made short work of Gujarat Titans (GT) bowlers as the hosts claimed what can be called a win for the ages by 8 wickets and 25 balls to spare.

Earlier in the evening, half-centuries by Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler propelled GT to a massive total of 209. However, it proved to be too little for Titans’ as they stumbled upon a freak run chase by Royals.

Highlights from RR vs GT game, IPL 2025

Gill-Buttler power GT’s total
For the second time in as many games, skipper Shubman Gill played a stellar role in GT reaching a massive total. He and Sai Sudharsan mixed caution with aggression as they added 93 runs in just 62 balls. Gill looked in sublime touch as he brought up his half-century in just 29 balls, playing his trademark classy shots. Once his opening partner departed, he switched gears. He smashed twin sixes off Yudhvir Singh’s over, which gave all the momentum to GT.

His partner in crime Jos Buttler, a batter who knows these conditions in and out then took charge. After a steady start, Buttler turned things around by hammering seasoned spinner Wanindu Hasaranga for three sixes and a boundary in a single 24-run over. He then played some outrageous scoop shots off Jofra Archer and Sandeep Sharma and these onslaughts took the Titans’ total past the 200-run mark.

Vaibhav’s ton lits up RR’s chase
Vaibhav Suryavanshi playing just his fourth game of the season lit up the Sawai Mansingh Stadium by smashing the second-fastest hundred in IPL off 35 balls. In pursuit of a big total of 210, Vaibhav didn’t show slightest of pressure as he demolished each and every bowler of the GT attack.

The left-hander started his blitz with a maximum off Siraj in the very over before hitting three sixes in the single over off Ishant Sharma. Washington Sundar was not spared either as were GT’s best bowlers, Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan. He got to his fifty in just 17 balls, the second fastest of the season before completing a ton in mere 35 balls.

Poor decision in bowling hurt GT
Gujarat Titans, who are arguably one of the strongest bowling attacks this season, had a forgettable outing here. While there is no doubt that Vaibhav Suryavanshi played one of the most outrageous knocks in the IPL, some of their decisions taken by stand-in skipper Rashid Khan in GT’s bowling innings proved to be tactically incorrect.

For instance, GT started with Mohammed Siraj who gave away 11 runs in his first over and veteran Ishant Sharma shared the new ball along with him. The third over bowled by Siraj again proved to be expensive as it went for 13 runs. Then instead of giving over to Prasidh Krishna, the second-best bowler this season, Ishant Sharma bowled his second and that over went for 28 runs.

Again, there was no sign of Prasidh until the sixth over and the fifth over was bowled by Washington Sundar, going for for 21 runs. RR finished the game in the powerplays as this phase yielded 87 runs. Finally, the match was truly gone when debutant Karim Janath conceded 30 in the 10th over of the innings. Rashid Khan could have used their best bowlers Sai Kishore or Kishore or even Siraj, as this was their time to stem the flow of runs. There was no coming back post that and these marginal calls certainly made a difference in the end.

Conclusion
While this performance for the ages might have come little late for Rajasthan Royals in this season, this match would give plenty of confidence for this young team. They still have four games to go, first of which will be against Mumbai Indians, here at Jaipur on May 1.

Gujarat Titans, despite this resounding defeat, are in still in commanding situation as far as the points table is concerned. Sitting at third, they will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad at home on May 2.
