Highlights of PBKS vs LSG, IPL 2025

Prabhsimran makes most of the dropped catch
Prabhsimran Singh did not  get much strike in the first three overs, but when he did in the fourth over, he took Mayank Yadav’s bowling apart, hitting 2 sixes and a four. However, Prabhsimran was lucky that a mishit off his bat was dropped by Nicholas Pooran when the PBKS opener was batting on 21. Prabhsimran quickly put this lack of concentration behind and went about his task of dismantling the Lucknow bowling attack.

He dropped anchor as captain Shreyas Iyer took charge, but Prabhsimran ensured he rotated the strike and punished the bad balls. He and Iyer posted a 78-run stand in 7.5 overs. He switched gears after reaching his fifty and cracked two sixes off Digvesh Rathi’s over – the 15th off the innings. He reached his fifty off 30 balls, but took another 18 balls to score the next 41 runs. Prabhsimran raced to his 90s after clobbering 6,4,6 off Avesh Khan’s bowling – 18th over the innings. He fell for 91 after a failed switch hit. He cracked 6 fours and 7 sixes during his knock.

Akash Singh makes an impressive debut
Akash Singh from Nagaland showed no signs of nerves bowling his maiden over in IPL. He opened the attack for Lucknow and took a wicket on the fifth ball of the over. Left-armer Akash got the ball to swing late away from Punjab opener Priyansh Arya who just managed to hit it straight down to backward point fielder. Akash bowled a tidy second over as well, giving away just 2 runs.

In his third over of his spell, he dismissed the dangerous Josh Inglish off a slower ball as the Aussie could just manage to hole out to the deep midwicket fielder. He finished his fourth over within the eight over of the innings, and conceded just 30 runs for his 2 wickets, and emerged the best Lucknow bowler of the match.

Arshdeep’s opening spell 3-10 turns the game on its head
Although PBKS were defending a huge target, they needed to pick up early wickets. Arshdeep Singh lived up to his reputations of taking wickets in the powerplay, taking three wickets in his first three overs inside 6 overs. The three-wicket burst broke the back of LSG’s batting unit. After a tidy first over where he gave away just two runs, Arshdeep got Mitchell Marsh to hole out in the deep square region in the bowler’s second over. In the same over, he got Aiden Markram to inside edge onto his stumps. In his third over, Arshdeep got the dangerous Nicholas Pooran dismissed LBW to a ball hitting the back pads.

Rishabh Pant’s woeful form continues
Coming to bat at No 4, LSG’s skipper Rishabh Pant was expected to stage a fightback but the keeper-batter cut a sorry figure of himself. He struggled to rotate the strike and failed to connect with the ball. He tried his innovative shot-making but could not deliver. Eventually, his miserable knock of 17-ball 18 ended when he stepped down to hit a six, but only managed to smash it to Shashank Singh at deep point. Pant has managed 128 runs so far at an average of 12.80 and strike rate of 99.22 with one fifty in 11 matches in IPL 2025.

The way forward
With this win, PBKS have jumped to the second spot in the points table with 15 points. They have moved one step closer towards play-offs. They need a win or two to confirm their play-off berth. PBKS would be eyeing a top two finish to get two chances to qualify for the final. They take on Delhi on May 8 next.

Meanwhile, LSG’s chances of making it to the play-offs rests on winning their last three games, and hoping other results go in their favour. They next face Bengaluru on May 9.
