IPL 2025, LSG vs MI, Highlights: Fifties from Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh, along with a strong bowling performance, outshine the brilliance of Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya. Top Hits & Flops from the game.

Brief scores: LSG 203/8 (M Marsh 60, A Markram 53, H Pandya 5/36) beat MI 191/5 (S Yadav 67, N Dhir 46, D Singh 1/21) by 12 runs.

Mitchell Marsh’s explosive 60-run knock, complemented by Aiden Markram composed 53, guided Lucknow Super Giants to a thrilling victory over Mumbai Indians in the 16th match of IPL 2025 played at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Despite Hardik Pandya’s remarkable 5-wicket haul and Suryakumar Yadav anchoring the innings with a steady 67 runs, Mumbai Indians fell short in a hard-fought contest.

Hits from MI vs LSG

Aiden Markram bounces back with an impressive 53
Aiden Markram, who had been struggling to find form in the first three matches of IPL 2025, finally showcased his class in the fourth match against Mumbai Indians. Opening alongside Mitchell Marsh, Markram scored a well-paced 53 runs off 38 balls, boasting a strike rate of 139.47, including 2 fours and 4 sixes.

After modest scores of 15, 1, and 28 in the previous games, Markram’s innings was a breath of fresh air. Early on, he played a supporting role as Marsh dominated the MI bowlers, but when wickets fell at the other end including that of Rishabh Pant and Nicholas Pooran, Markram stepped up, taking charge and accelerating the innings, ensuring his team maintained the momentum.

MI skipper leads from the front
MI captain Hardik Pandya delivered a spellbinding performance against LSG, making IPL history as the first-ever captain to claim a five-wicket haul. His brilliant 5-for in just 4 overs, conceding 36 runs, dismantled LSG’s top and middle order, as he removed Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Rishabh Pant, David Miller, and Akash Deep.

What made Pandya’s performance even more remarkable was its timing. As other MI bowlers struggled and leaked runs, Hardik’s economy rate of 9.00 stood out, second only to Vignesh Puthur. His spell not only turned the game in MI’s favour but also delivered a significant morale boost to the team, especially with the absence of their star bowler, Jasprit Bumrah.

Suryakumar Yadav takes the charge with bat
Suryakumar Yadav marked his 100th game for Mumbai Indians with a brilliant knock of 67 runs off 43 balls, boasting a strike rate of 155.81. His innings featured 9 boundaries and a six. Taking charge of the MI batting, the experienced batter played a crucial anchor role, and tried hard to take his team across the finish line.

Flops from MI vs LSG

Rishabh Pant and Ravi Bishnoi’s poor form continues
LSG captain Rishabh Pant‘s struggle with the bat continued in IPL 2025 as he was dismissed for just 2 runs off 6 balls against Mumbai Indians, falling to Hardik Pandya. Pant’s strike rate of 33.33 added to his ongoing poor form, as he has managed only 19 runs in the four matches.

He was dismissed for a duck in his LSG debut, followed by a modest 15 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, and a mere 2 runs against Punjab Kings. With Nicholas Pooran falling cheaply to his counterpart, the opportunity was there for Pant to step up on a good batting surface, but he failed to capitalise on the chance.

On the other hand, Ravi Bishnoi, the leg-spinner, struggled to deliver the crucial breakthroughs that his team has come to rely on. Known for his ability to maintain pressure and take wickets, he has faltered in recent matches, failing to give his team the much-needed momentum. In his recent outings, his figures have been far from inspiring: 53/2 in four overs against DC, 42/1 in four overs against SRH, 43/0 in three overs against PBKS, and 40/0 in four overs against MI.
