Sai Sudharsan is striking at 151.66 and is the second-highest run-scorer in IPL 2025. What makes him special—and could he be a strong contender for Team India across formats?
Since the inception of IPL, many young players have come up and proved their calibre at the biggest stage. Players like Rinku Singh, Arshdeep Singh, etc. have made the most of the opportunities and now they are regular members of the national team. Another such player, a 23 year old young prodigy, who has been consistently performing in IPL and in domestic cricket is Sai Sudharsan. He made his IPL debut in 2022 and since then he has been a reckoning force.
Sai Sudharsan: A young and powerful force in GT’s dugout
Veteran Indian pacer, Ashish Nehra, was the first one to find the spark in Sai’s raw talent and he is the one who has been backing the youngster. In return, the latter is doing full justice by reciprocating with power packed innings every now and then.
What makes Sudharsan a unique player is his consistency. He is not a powerful hitter of the ball, but it’s his consistency that sets him apart. Moreover, we never see him throwing away his wicket cheaply. He provides his side the right starts and always looks to convert them into milestones. He is technically very sound and now with more matches under his belt, he is evolving as an even better player. In IPL 2025 so far, he has already registered three 50s by his name and in fact, is batting at a decent strike rate of 151.66.

A star in making: Sai Sudharsan in domestic cricket
Before the IPL, Sai Sudharsan had already conquered the demons of domestic cricket. His frequent fifties there made him Tamil Nadu’s go-to man. In the 2024-25 domestic season, he scored 82(159), 213(274), 7(26) and 2(7) in two Ranji Trophy matches he played. He couldn’t feature in plenty of matches as he was injured. Although, a double hundred in days cricket is a great achievement and something to be remembered for.
His performances in white and red ball reflects versatility. No matter what format, Sudharsan has cracked the code of scoring runs! And that is why, he is a perfect fit to represent India in all the formats.

Sai’s consistency knocking the Indian Team’s door
With such consistency and dominance, it will be hard for the national selectors to ignore this young talent. He has ticked all the boxes and is surely a player to invest in. Also, with the kind of technique he possesses, he can be groomed in both, white ball and red ball cricket. Interestingly, he has already played a handful of matches for India. But maybe now is the time to launch this powerhouse in international cricket more regularly.
Also, soon Indian cricket will witness a transition as senior batters- Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are in the dawn of their career. Hence, young guns like Sudharsan can potentially take the baton and carry the country’s pride like his seniors did in the last decade!
