Four Indian pacers have taken 100+ wickets under the captaincy of Virat Kohli in Tests.

South Africa maintained their 29-year-old unbeaten record at home against India by defeating the latter by a margin of 2-1 in a three-Test series.


Here’s a snapshot of records set/broken in the Newlands Test played between January 11-14, 2022:


4 - Four Indian pacers (Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav) have 100+ wickets under the captaincy of Virat Kohli in Tests. Only under Graeme Smith (7) and Clive Lloyd (5), more pacers had 100+ wickets in Tests.


7 - Jasprit Bumrah bagged his seventh fifer (42/5) against Proteas in the Newlands Test.


5 - Jasprit Bumrah bagged his fifth Test five-for in SENA countries. Only Kapil Dev (7) and Zaheer Khan (6) have more Test five-wicket hauls in SENA countries than Bumrah.


2 - Jasprit Bumrah has now bagged two five-fors in South Africa in Test cricket. Only Javagal Shrinath (3) bagged more five-wicket hauls in South Africa than Bumrah among India’s pacers.


1 - This is the first time three different Indian pacers took five-fors in three consecutive Tests of a series. Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Shami bagged fifers in this ongoing Test series against South Africa.


2 - This is only the second instance of three Indian pacers taking fifers in a Test series after the Pataudi Trophy in England in 2018 in which Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Ishant Sharma had bagged five-wicket hauls.



28 - Virat Kohli scored his 28th Test fifty at Newlands in the first innings.


6 - Rishabh Pant scored his sixth fifty-plus score in Tests played in SENA countries.


4 - Rishabh pant smashed an unbeaten Test century against Proteas, which is his fourth Test century.


198 - is the lowest all-out total registered by India comprising an individual century in Test cricket. The previous lowest was 208 against New Zealand in Wellington in 1998 when Mohammad Azharuddin scored an unbeaten 103.


1 - Rishabh Pant became the first Indian wicketkeeper batter to score a Test century in South Africa. The previous highest score by an Indian wicketkeeper batter was 90 by MS Dhoni at SuperSport Park, Centurion in 2010.

3 - Rishabh Pant scored his third Test century in SENA countries- most for any Asian wicketkeeper batter in the aforementioned countries. He surpassed Moin Khan, who registered two Test centuries in SENA countries as a wicketkeeper batter.


3 - Rishabh Pant has now scored three Test centuries away from home – most for any wicketkeeper batter before reaching the age of 25. He leapfrogged Clyde Walcott and Les Ames, who registered two Test centuries each as wicketkeeper batters before reaching the age of 25.
