Remembering cricketers from Assam might pose a challenge for enthusiasts, especially recalling those who have represented India. However, emerging on the scene is the promising Riyan Parag. At the tender age of 22, Parag, the cricket prodigy from Assam, has dazzled with his remarkable ability to send the cricket ball soaring beyond boundaries, setting new records in the process. His burgeoning success hints at a promising future. This year, Riyan Parag faced harsh criticism for below-par Indian Premier League (IPL) performances. Nevertheless, he orchestrated a remarkable turnaround with impressive domestic circuit displays.


Post IPL, the right-hand batter played a crucial role in the Deodhar Trophy, excelling with both bat and ball. Hailing from Assam, the young sensation emerged as the tournament's highest run-scorer and the joint third-highest wicket-taker. With a total of 354 runs and 11 wickets, his outstanding contributions earned him the Player of the Tournament award. His comeback to shut the mouth of the critics did not take a halt after the Deodhar Trophy.

Parag's exceptional form continued in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, contributing significantly to Assam's impressive run to the final. The young Assam skipper scripted history with an extraordinary feat, recording seven consecutive half-centuries, a global record, amassing an impressive 510 runs.


Leading the tournament's run-scoring charts, his remarkable tally distinguishes him as the sole player to breach the 500-run milestone. Riyan Parag's exceptional performances in both batting and bowling have solidified his status as a standout player in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, leaving a lasting impact on the competition.


In a power-packed display in T20 cricket, Riyan recently etched his name in the annals of T20 cricket history by becoming the first player to score six consecutive half-centuries in a single tournament. The setting for this remarkable achievement was the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023, during a gripping encounter between Assam and Kerala at Mumbai's Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy on October 27.


The importance of this achievement was underscored by the intensity of the match, which saw Assam emerging victorious with a hard-fought two-wicket win over Kerala. Notably, Kerala had maintained an undefeated streak until that encounter, amplifying the significance of Riyan's innings.


The momentum from this triumph carried into the subsequent match, where Riyan continued his stellar form by securing his seventh consecutive half-century. Assam convincingly defeated Bengal by eight wickets and stormed into the quarter-finals of the T20 tournament. This remarkable feat not only showcased Riyan's individual brilliance but also proved him to be a brilliant skipper who steps up whenever the team needs him.

What makes Riyan's accomplishment even more noteworthy is the fact that the young lad surpassed the record held by illustrious names in the cricketing world of most 50s consecutively in a tournament. Previous record-holders include the likes of Virender Sehwag, David Warner, Jos Buttler, Hamilton Masakadza, Kamran Akmal, Devon Conway, and Wayne Madsen.


Delving into his performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023, Riyan showcased his all-round capabilities by scalping an impressive 16 wickets from seven innings. His bowling efforts were characterized by an average of 9.31 and an economy rate of 5.84.


Taking a broader view of Riyan Parag's T20 career, the statistics speak volumes about his impact on the game. Having participated in 98 matches, he has accumulated 2043 runs at an average of 30 and a striking strike rate exceeding 140.
