Joe Root surpasses Graham Gooch, becomes second-highest English run-getter

1 - Joe Root is the fastest player to score 9000 runs in Test cricket among English players. He achieved this milestone in just 196 Test innings and he broke the record of former English skipper Alastair Cook who scored 9000 runs in 204 Test innings.

2 – English skipper Joe Root became the second-highest run-getter in Test cricket among English players by surpassing former English skipper Graham Gooch who amassed 8900 runs in Test cricket. Among English players, only Alastair Cook (12472) scored more runs than Root.


1 - Joe Root is the first English captain to score six 150+ scores in Test cricket. David Gower and Alastair Cook scored five 150+ scores each as captain in Test cricket.


1 - At 39 years 14 days, James Anderson is the oldest pacer to take a five-wicket haul in Tests in the last 70 years since South Africa's Geoff Chubb, who had figures of 6/51 vs England at Manchester in 1951 at the age of 40 years 86 days.

7 - Joe Root became the seventh player to score four or more Test tons against India as a captain. Only West Indies former captain Clive Lloyd (7) and Australia’s former skipper Steven Smith (6) have scored more centuries than Root in Test cricket as a captain against India.


1 - Joe Root topped the chart of Test centuries in Pataudi Trophy as he smashed his fifth Test century against India today. He surpassed the record of Kevin Pietersen who scored four Test tons in the Pataudi Trophy.


7 - In the first innings of the Test match, Joe Root became the only seventh player to score more than 2000 runs against India in Test cricket.

7 - Jimmy Anderson picked up the seventh fifer at Lord’s in Test cricket.


31 - Anderson bagged 31st five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

6 - Joe Root has scored six 150+ scores as a captain in Test cricket. Only Virat Kohli (9), Don Bradman (8), Michael Clarke (7), Mahela Jayawardene (7), Brain Lara (7), Graeme Smith (7) smashed more 150+ scores in Test cricket than Root.
