Top-ranked Gujarat Titans (GT) clashed heads with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the historic Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday afternoon. These two sides were facing each other for the first time in IPL.
RCB skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bat first. RCB included left-hand all-rounder Mahipal Lomror in place of Suyash Prabhudesai. Opponent side Titans made two changes in their eleven, Pradeep Sangwan was included in place of injured Yash Dayal, whereas Abhinav Manohar made way for Sai Sudharsan.
Gujarat Titans grabbed another win in the final over
Virat Kohli and skipper Faf du Plessis opened the innings for RCB. Kohli kicked off the innings with two back-to-back boundaries against pacer Mohammed Shami. However, his partner du Plessis got caught by wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha for a duck off left-arm pacer Sangwan. Next batter Rajat Patidar batted well to stitch a vital partnership of 99 runs for the second wicket with Kohli. All-rounder Glenn Maxwell and Mahipal Lomror provided a decent late-order finish to help RCB reach 170-6 in the allotted 20 overs.
While chasing the target of 171 runs, wicketkeeper batter Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill gave a good start to their side by adding a 51-run opening partnership. However, the Titans suffered a collapse against RCB spinners. In the last five overs, Rahul Tewatia and David Miller unleashed a flurry of boundaries to help their side reach the target with three balls to spare.
Let’s take a look at the top three performances from the game between GT and RCB.
Pradeep Sangwan makes dream comeback
Left-arm seamer Pradeep Sangwan made it into an IPL playing XI after around four years. He got the berth in the starting eleven for GT as regular pacer Yash Dayal had a niggle and Sangwan made the most of this opportunity he got for Gujarat Titans.
In the second over of the innings, Sangwan sent back RCB skipper du Plessis to the dugout for a duck. Sangwan conceded only one run in this over and followed it up with conceding only one run in the next over to keep RCB batters in check.
In his third over, Sangwan conceded nine runs. Later in the innings, when RCB was in a dominating position due to the 99-run partnership between Kohli and Patidar, GT skipper Hardik Pandya brought back Sangwan into the attack. Sangwan dismissed Patidar on the first ball of the over to break the partnership.
Sangwan picked two wickets in his quota of four over giving away only 19 runs.

Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar added 99 runs for the second wicket for RCB
RCB lost their skipper du Plessis for a duck early in the innings; the onus fell on former captain Virat Kohli and newcomer Rajat Patidar to rescue their side.
Virat was looking in fine touch; he smacked two boundaries against Shami in the first over of the innings, then repeated the same feat against Caribbean pacer Alzarri Joseph. Patidar also started to deal in boundaries by smashing a boundary off Joseph and followed it up with another boundary off Sangwan.
Patidar also launched a huge six over cow corner against leg spinner Rashid Khan. His experienced partner Kohli hammered an elephantine six and a four against speedster Lockie Ferguson. Patidar didn’t hold himself back as he smacked a six and a four off pacer Joseph. Both batters completed their individual fifties one after another. Patidar completed his first IPL fifty in just 29 deliveries.
After Sangwan dismissed Patidar on a personal score of 52, Kohli also got bowled by Shami on 58. Shami had dismissed Kohli four times before this game in 10 IPL innings after conceding 62 runs in 46 deliveries.
Kohli made 58 runs in 53 deliveries with the help of six boundaries and one six.

Rahul Tewatia-David Miller helped their side cross finishing line
When the game goes in final overs, Rahul Tewatia has been the man for GT who always keeps his cool and stanches victories for his team from the jaws of defeat. He proved it again here against RCB by smashing an unbeaten match-winning knock of 43 runs off 25 deliveries.
When Titans lost the wicket of Sai Sudharsan when they were 76 runs short of the target with 43 deliveries left. As Titans lost two quick wickets in the last few overs, they were cornered by RCB spinners. However, David Miller smashed a huge six and a four off leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga to ease the pressure. Tewatia took the same road to smash three boundaries off pacer Mohammed Siraj to bring the required run rate down.
The batting pair of Tewatia and Miller smashed 17 runs in an over of Hazlewood to help their side reach closer to a win. Pacer Harshal Patel bowled the nineteenth over well, though Tewatia managed to hit a six over mid-off on the last ball of the over to put the pressure back on opponents. Tewatia and Miller continuously dealt in boundaries to grab victory for their side in the final over of the game. They added 79 runs for the fifth wicket off just 40 deliveries.
