The two sides were tied at a 12-12 margin in head-to-head encounters; even though, since 2019 RR had gained just one victory against DC.
Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant, on winning the toss, opted to filed first. Both teams were going with an unchanged XI for the contest.
Rajasthan Royals held their nerve to edge out Delhi Capitals
Just few minutes after after deciding to bowl first, Pant might be thinking of going back to the past and changing his decision as both the Royals openers - Devdutt Padikkal and Jos Buttler - after a shaky start, went berserk later to hammer the DC bowlers all around the park.
The 155-run opening partnership got broken when Padikkal was dismissed for 54 but Buttler carried on to register his third century this season which also was his second consecutive century in IPL 2022. Later, Sanju Samson’s 46 off just 19 balls fired RR to the highest score of IPL, 222-2 after their 20 overs. The Royals are yet to lose an IPL game defending 200+.
Delhi Capitals did start well with 43 runs in just 4.3 overs but they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. At last, they did fire up as Rovman Powell hit three back-to-back sixes in the last over to bring some life in the end. But due to some off-field drama, DC lost the momentum and Rajasthan grabbed a 15-run victory to find themselves at the top of the points table.

Jos Buttler records his third century in IPL 2022; Devdutt Padikkal plays a good hand as well
Jos Buttler and scoring centuries has now become a new fairy tale in IPL 2022. The England player was just coming into the game refreshed from his 103 in the last game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
He wasn’t having great numbers against the franchise with just 181 runs in eight innings but his show in the evening changed the equation totally. Buttler didn’t begin the day smoothly with just 11 off 14 balls but since smacking his first six, he went with the flow and brought up his fifty in just 36 balls.
The right-hander, whom RR retained for INR 10 crores, smashed left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav everywhere in the ground collecting 31 off 12 balls against him; before this contest, he had just 23 off 21 balls against Kuldeep.
In a blink of an eye, Buttler raised his bat for his third century of the season in just 57 balls. He became the first-ever player to score three 100s in the first half of an IPL season. In comparison with Virat Kohli in 2016, Buttler has now 58 more runs than Kohli after seven innings. Buttler has also joined Shikhar Dhawan in scoring back-to-back centuries in IPL innings.
The England wicketkeeper-batter was ably supported by Devdutt Padikkal who was doing the damage in the beginning when Buttler was taking his time. The left-hand opener also registered a half-century in just 31 balls to put up a 155-run opening partnership with Buttler to lay down a solid platform for RR.

Prasidh Krishna hurts Delhi with three crucial wickets and a wicket maiden penultimate over
The first job for Rajasthan was to break the electrifying opening combination of David Warner and Prithvi Shaw. Prasidh Krishna, who was roped in by RR for INR 10 crores, helped them with two vital wickets of Warner in the beginning and Rishabh Pant in the middle stage.
When Krishna came back for his second over, Warner welcomed him with two consecutive boundaries but the lanky fast bowler sent back the Australian courtesy an edge to wicketkeeper Samson. Before this game, the left-handed batter had just 15 runs against Krishna at run a ball with one dismissal.
Rishabh Pant, after the fall of a few more wickets, was looking good in the middle as DC added 52 run in just three overs. Krishna was summoned back again and with just his fourth ball, he got rid of the opponent captain, who in an attempt to club the bowler for a six ended up in the hands of Padikkal who took an excellently judged catch.
It was the maiden time Krishna got the batter of Pant, who had 24 unbeaten runs in 16 balls against the Karnataka bowler.
Coming into his last and 19th over of the game, defending 32, Krishna produced a wicket maiden over, dismissing Lalit Yadav on a personal score of 37 (24). The more important part was that Krishna delivered a maiden over when DC needed 36 runs off 12 deliveries and Lalit was looking solid in the middle. Krishna finished with 3-22 from his four overs and was easily the pick of the bowlers on Friday evening.

Sensational Samson lights up the evening after Buttler-Padikkal show

Even though the whole evening mostly centred on Jos Buttler, the RR leader ended up playing a relatively unnoticed vital knock of 46 runs in just 19 balls, thanks to three sixes and five boundaries.
From the start, he didn’t waste a second to accelerate as he kept the run flow going. Till the end of the game, with some of his stunning shots, Samson took RR to 222-2, which is now the highest total this season.
