Jaiswal-Dube lead Rajasthan Royals' charge and win two crucial points.
Rajasthan Royals 190 /3 (Dube 64*, Jaiswal 50, Thakur 2/30) beat Chennai Super Kings 189 for 4 (Gaikwad 101*, Jadeja 32*, Tewatia 3/39) by seven wickets
The day belonged to Indian youngsters, Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK), Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR) and Shivam Dube (RR) who performed exceptionally well for their respective teams.
Ruturaj’s maiden ton and a quickfire knock by Ravindra Jadeja helped Chennai Super Kings to set a target of 190 runs from 20 overs for Rajasthan Royals to remain in the queue for the playoffs.
Gaikwad scores maiden IPL ton
Chennai Super Kings openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis built up a partnership of 47 runs in almost seven overs. Gaikwad scored an unbeaten 101 runs from just 60 balls which included nine fours and five sixes with a strike rate of 168.33 while Du Plessis scored just 25 runs from 19 balls with one four and two sixes.
Ruturaj has performed excellently well in the last two seasons of Indian Premier League. He is currently the Orange Cap holder as he has scored 509 runs in 12 matches with an average of more than 50.
Ravindra Jadeja scored an unbeaten 32 runs from 15 balls which included four fours and a six with a strike rate of 213.33. He is in top form in this edition of IPL as he has played some match-winning knocks in IPL 2021.
Moeen Ali also scored some important runs for CSK. He scored 21 runs from 17 balls with one four and one six.
The pick of the bowlers for Rajasthan Royal was Rahul Tewatia with three important wickets of Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raima and Moeen Ali. He conceded 39 runs in his spell of four overs. Chetan Sakariya also took one wicket of Ambati Rayadu in his four over-spell and was smashed for 31 runs. All other bowlers also went for more than 30 runs in their spell of four overs without taking a wicket.
Rajasthan youngsters maul Chennai
Rajasthan Royals chased down the mammoth target of 190 runs in only 17.3 overs with seven wickets remaining.
The RR openers provided a dream start to their side as they registered a partnership of 77 runs in just 32 balls. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 50 runs from 21 balls with six fours and three sixes whereas Even Lewis scored 27 runs from 12 balls which included two fours and two sixes.
Shivam Dube also scored an unbeaten knock of 64 runs from 42 balls which included four fours and four sixes. He was playing his first game of the second phase of the 14th edition of Indian Premier League.
Chennai Super Kings missed the likes of Deepak Chahar and Dwayne Bravo against Rajasthan Royals. For CSK, the wickets were taken by Shardul Thakur and KM Asif. All the bowlers for Super Kings went expensive in this game as they all conceded a lot of runs in their spell of four overs.
Four teams – KKR, PBKS, RR, MI - locked on 10 points each
Despite losing this match, Chennai Super Kings are on the top of the table with 18 points at a net run rate of +0.829 while Rajasthan Royals, with this victory, still remain at the sixth spot with five wins from their 12 matches at a net run rate of -0.337. RR are tied in terms of points with KKR, PBKS and MI who are at the fourth, fifth and seventh spots respectively by virtue of net run rate.
On October 3, 2021, one more double header will take place. In the afternoon, Royal Challengers Bangalore will be facing off against Punjab Kings and later in the evening, Kolkata Knight Riders will be clashing against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
