IPL 2025, MI vs RCB, Hits & Flops: Bengaluru hold their own in close clash with Mumbai

IPL 2025, MI vs RCB, Highlights: RCB edge out Mumbai Indians in a high-scoring thriller and climb to third place on the points table. Top hits & flops from the game.

Brief Scores: RCB 221/5 (Virat Kohli 67, Rajat Patidar 64, Hardik Pandya 2/45) beat MI 209/9 (Tilak Verma 56, Krunal Pandya 4/45) by 12 runs.

In the 20th IPL 2025 fixture between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium, the visitors posted 221/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Virat Kohli (67) offered an aggressive start before the 89-run stand between Rajat Patidar (64) and Jitesh Sharma (40*) fired them to a huge score.

In reply, Mumbai made a poor start. After the powerplay, they managed just 30 runs in the next four overs to reach 84/3 in 10 overs. The 89-run stand between Hardik Pandya and Tilak Verma kept them in the chase. But they fell short by 12 runs.

Hits from MI vs RCB game

Patidar, Kohli, and Jitesh take RCB to solid total
After losing Phil Salt on the second ball of the game, Virat Kohli took charge inside the first six overs. He nailed Trent Boult for a six and two successive boundaries in the third over. Devdutt Padikkal also contributed from the other end, as the southpaw smacked Deepak Chahar for two sixes and a boundary.

Virat kept on nailing the big shots to celebrate a 29-ball half-century. Once he lost rhythm in the middle overs, Rajat Patidar took center stage. The RCB captain didn’t get the momentum at the start of the innings. But he smashed Hardik Pandya for two consecutive sixes and a four to record a 25-ball fifty.

Patidar put up a vital 81-run stand with Jitesh Sharma. The wicket-keeper batter remained unbeaten on 40 runs in just 19 balls, shouldering on four sixes and two boundaries. The batting trio carried Bengaluru to a humongous score of 221.

Hardik & Tilak among runs is huge positive for MI
When Hardik Pandya joined Tilak Verma in the middle, the required run rate was nearly 15 RPO. The left-handed batter nailed Suyash Sharma for 15 runs before the MI captain took charge to drill 22 runs against Josh Hazlewood. He accumulated 19 runs in the very next over off Krunal Pandya.

Suddenly, the entire ground found their voice back. The 89-run stand for the fifth wicket in 34 balls kept Mumbai in the chase. Verma ended with 56 runs in 29 balls, shouldering four boundaries and as many sixes. Pandya, on the other hand, ended with 42 runs in 15 deliveries, thanks to four sixes and three fours.

Flops from MI vs RCB game

Ordinary bowling from Boult and Pandya hurt MI
Even though Boult collected the huge scalp of Salt on the second ball of the game, it was an ordinary performance from the veteran. The left-arm New Zealand pacer leaked 16 runs in his second over. When he was called back in the 16th over, he gave away 18 runs. The veteran, who ended with awful figures of 2/57 in four overs, lacked planning in the last five overs.

There was much expectation from Hardik Pandya. The Mumbai Indians’ captain came into the game after a five-wicket haul against the Lucknow Super Giants. But he failed to repeat the same performance in the contest. He had three decent overs with 2/22, including the wickets of Kohli and Liam Livingstone.

But he appeared under pressure during his last over and went for 23 runs which included two fours and two sixes. He didn’t get the right execution towards the end of the innings.

Way forward
It will be an incredibly tough journey ahead for the five-time champions MI after four consecutive defeats. Their next encounter is against the table toppers, Delhi Capitals, on April 13 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. It will be an early do-or-die clash for the side, who need to develop their opening partnership and death overs’ bowling.

For Bengaluru, it’s an excellent performance to get back into winning ways. They’ll aim to carry the momentum into the next game against the Capitals on April 10 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Their balanced bowling line-up will be key for the contest.
