Highlights from MI vs CSK game, IPL 2025
Dube-Jadeja show intent in middle order
CSK’s middle-order was guilty of not forcing the pace of the innings earlier in the season. But Ravindra Jadeja, who was promoted to No 4, combined with Shivam Dube to add impetus to the innings in the middle-overs. First, they knocked the ball around for singles and twos before exploding a few overs later.
Dube was the first to get going, pulling a short ball from Trent Boult for four. Soon, Jadeja joined the party, pulling a ball from Jasprit Bumrah to the fine leg boundary. When Boult returned for his third over, Dube smacked a four and a six. The floodgates opened in the 16th over, when Jadeja-Dube combined to score three sixes and a four off Ashwani Kumar’s bowling. The two posted a stand of 79 runs in 8.2 overs. Dube scored a 32-ball 50 while Jadeja made an unbeaten 53 in 35 balls.

Bumrah’s 2-25 put brakes on CSK
CSK were looking at a total above 180 after Dube-Jadeja posted a 79-run stand for the fourth wicket. The duo had combined to take 24 runs in the 16th over. However, Jasprit Bumrah came on to bowl in the 17th over and conceded just 3 runs for the wicket of Dube. It turned the momentum in Mumbai’s favour. Bumrah came back to bowl his last over – the 19th over of the innings – and although he conceded two fours, he took the important wicket of MS Dhoni.
Overall, Bumrah conceded just 12 runs in his last two overs for two wickets at the death to stop CSK from running away with a 180+ total. Bumrah ended his four-over spell with 2 for 25 – a redemption after conceding 44 runs for 1 wicket in his last match against Delhi.
Not easy to hit him away 🙅

Rohit-Surya make it easy for MI
During the chase, Rohit Sharma roared back to form with an attacking knock of a 45-ball 76*. First, he combined with Ryan Rickelton (24) to stitch an opening stand of 63 runs in 6.4 overs. This was the first time this season that Rohit batted through the powerplay. He then carried his team to victory with the support of Suryakumar Yadav, who cracked a 30-ball 68*. After six knocks of 26 runs and less in IPL 2025, Rohit shrugged off his poor form, slamming six sixes and four boundaries in his first fifty of the season. Rohit got going when he cracked a six and two fours in the third over of the innings bowled by Khaleel Ahmed.
Meanwhile, SKY too joined the party and didn’t spare any CSK bowler. He smacked a four and a six off Jadeja’s second over to get going. He smashed another six and a four off Jadeja’s next over. When Noor Ahmad came on to bowl, he cracked three straight fours to hasten the end of the chase. Eventually, the duo wrapped up the chase with three sixes off four balls bowled by Matheesha Pathirana. SKY ended with a 30-ball 68* with six fours and five sixes.

Way forward
CSK are in troubled waters as they need to win all their remaining six matches and hope other games go in their favour to stay in contention for the play-offs. Currently, they are placed last on the points table, having won just two matches out of six. They next face Sunrisers Hyderabad at home on April 25.
On the other hand, Mumbai Indians have extended their winning streak to three games. They have improved their net run-rate by beating CSK with 26 balls to spare. They have improved their chances of making it to the play-offs, but need to win their remaining six games to not only book a play-off berth, but hope for a top two finish. Mumbai are currently placed sixth with 8 points. They next face Sunrisers Hyderabad away from home on April 23.

Just enjoy watching these young players. No fright, great skill. #AyushMhatre was exactly what @ChennaiIPL needed at that stage.
