Highlights from CSK vs SRH game, IPL 2025
Harshal Patel’s 4/28 sinks CSK
Chennai Super Kings batters, who have been rather sedate throughout the season, came with a positive mindset in this game. While in the powerplays, it was Ayush Mhatre who scored bulk of the runs, Dewald Brevis shifted gears in the middle overs.
On both occasions, it was Harshal Patel who thwarted the momentum of CSK and brought SRH back into the game. Coming into the attack in fifth over, Harshal broke the 39-run stand by removing Sam Curran, which in turn created the dismissal of Ayush Mhatre, the very next over.
Few overs later, CSK was going great guns with two stroke-makers Shivam Dube and Dewald Brevis at the crease. The pair added 40 runs in no time, and it was Brevis who was making most of the damage. This is where SRH brought in Harshal into attack, and he tilted the game by removing Brevis. He used his slower balls and bouncers to great effect as the runs dried off his bowling.
The medium pacer further picked the important scalp of MS Dhoni and capped off the spell by removing Noor Ahmad to finish with figures of 4/28.

Dewald Brevis’ 42 off 25 brings fresh air in CSK middle order
Dewald Brevis, the newest acquisition in the CSK squad made a quick impact on his IPL debut for the men in yellow. On a ground where it is little tricky for an overseas batter to adjust to spin and the pace of the wicket, Brevis dominated the proceedings in style.
In the middle-overs where CSK batters have struggled to get going this season, Brevis brought them fresh lease of air in this innings. He smashed three successive sixes off Kamindu Mendis who was going through a good spell and gave much needed momentum to CSK.
A batter taking on the bowler in the middle order was something CSK were yearning through this season and Brevis provided the answer during his blitz at Chennai. Going forward, he could be the mainstay for the five-time champions in that part of innings.

Kamindu played a crucial role in SRH middle order
Much like CSK, the Sunrisers Hyderabad haven’t fixated on their middle-order, and it hasn’t helped them one bit this season. However, in this game Kamindu Mendis played a key role for SRH in their victory. He arrived at the fall of Ishan Kishan with SRH still needed 65 runs in 8 overs and provided stability to the innings.
The left-hander played his shots freely and took on both pacers & spinners alike. Earlier in the game, he proved his worth by not only picking the wicket of Ravindra Jadeja but also turned the game around with his sensational catch to dismiss Brevis. With this effort, Mendis has cemented his place in SRH’s middle-order, especially in pitches offering something for the spinners.
Conclusion
With this defeat, CSK’s chances of qualifying for the playoffs is over, and SRH hang by a thread courtesy of this win in the “MRC Nagar” derby. SRH seem to have found their batting order and would love to continue this winning run as they travel to Ahmedabad to face Gujarat Titans on May 2.
CSK on the other hand, have things to ponder and find a winning formula. They will next host Punjab Kings on April 30 at Chepauk.

Being able to bowl off either hand at a pretty good level is such a gift to possess. Some of us have been talking about being able to throw with either hand inside the circle but this is far more difficult. There are 2-3 players doing what #KaminduMendis is doing but I will…
