One of the most intense rivalries in cricket is set to continue down under. India will take on the hosts and world champions, Australia, in a 3-match ODI series commencing on 10 October at Perth. Both sides have been traditional powerhouses in a format that is played rarely these days.

So, how have the teams fared when they have been up against each other in the 50-over format? Here, we examine a statistical fact file.

On analysing the table above, we can say that Australia have been clearly dominant over India, historically. The unprecedented 6-time World Champions have only lost 14 of the 54 games they played against India at home.

However, the recent trend shows that things are even between the sides, with India winning an ODI series in Australia (2018/19).

But this series presents a new challenge as both sides are starting their preparation for the 2027 World Cup. For India, it is about redemption and the pursuit of their long-awaited third world title. For Australia, it is about extending their dominance. Though this format has lost its sheen, this augurs to be a mouth watering tour.
