ENG vs IND 2025, 5th Test Day 2, Highlights: Siraj, Krishna share 8 wickets as India take 52-run lead after bowling out England for 247.

Brief scores: IND 224 (Karun Nair 57, Gus Atkinson 5/33) & 75/2 (Yashasvi Jaiswal 51*, Josh Tongue 1/25) lead ENG 247 (Zak Crawley 64, Prasidh Krishna 4/62) by 52 runs at stumps on Day 2.
Day 2 of the 5th Test at The Oval was full of drama as 16 wickets fell in a gripping contest. England started strong with Zak Crawley’s quickfire fifty and Harry Brook’s composed half-century.
But Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna turned the tide, sharing eight wickets to bowl England out cheaply.
India then fought back with the bat, led by a solid knock from Yashasvi Jaiswal. As light faded, Ollie Pope chose not to risk spin against a set Jaiswal. India ended the day 52 runs ahead, and the match now looks like a one-innings shootout.
Akash Deep strikes just before lunch, removes Duckett after India posts 224
India were bundled out for just 224, with Gus Atkinson running riot by picking up a five-wicket haul. Karun Nair top-scored with 57, but India lasted only 34 balls on Day 2’s morning, losing both Nair and Washington Sundar quickly.
In response, England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett came out firing, smashing 50 runs in just 7 overs. The pair stitched a blazing 92-run stand before Akash Deep provided India’s first breakthrough by dismissing Duckett at the stroke of lunch — even giving him a cheeky send-off. Crawley remained unbeaten with a rapid half-century as England cruised to 109/1 at lunch, firmly in control at The Oval.

Prasidh Krishna’s double strike rattles hosts, England 215/7 at Tea
India turned the game on its head in a fiery second session on Day 2 at The Oval, reducing England to 215/7 at Tea. Mohammed Siraj was relentless, picking up three big wickets — Ollie Pope, Joe Root, and Jacob Bethell — in a spell full of fire and precision.
Tensions flared when Prasidh Krishna and Joe Root were involved in a heated exchange, adding drama to an already intense session. Krishna struck twice just before the break, removing Jamie Smith and Jamie Overton.
With 6 wickets falling for just 87 runs, India’s pacers, led by Siraj and Krishna, brought the visitors right back into the contest.

England all out for 247, Yashasvi slams fifty to lead India’s run charge in second innings
Rain cut short the final session on Day 2 at The Oval, but India clawed back into the contest. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna took four wickets each to bowl England out for 247, conceding just a 23-run lead.
Yashasvi Jaiswal launched a fiery counter-attack, racing to an unbeaten 51 off 49 balls. KL Rahul fell to Josh Tongue, while Gus Atkinson picked up one as well.
With poor light forcing England to bowl only spin, Ollie Pope chose to end play rather than risk Jacob Bethell or Joe Root. Nightwatchman Akash Deep managed to survive two tricky deliveries, taking India to stumps at 75/2 with a 52-run lead.
What to expect on Day 3
Day 3 promises to be a crucial one for both sides. India will look to build a strong lead with Yashasvi Jaiswal continuing his aggressive form and the middle order stepping up. England’s pacers, especially Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue, will aim for early breakthroughs to pull things back. Overcast conditions may also play a part in shaping the day’s play.

From 142/2 to 247 all out. Stellar comeback from India. This is a team of fighters and they’ve shown that again. Big effort from the quick bowlers to get India back in the game. Over to the batters now! #ENGvIND

Day of fluctuating fortunes ends with India better placed, leading by 52 runs and 8 wickets standing. Uncharacteristically poor catching hit England badly, 3 chances grassed, including 2 of half centurion Jaiswal. But day’s hero undoubtedly Siraj with Prasidh only step behind

Such an enthralling day's cricket. Irrespective of where this series goes, India have shown tremendous fighting spirit. And no one exemplified that more than Siraj in his 2nd spell.

When you give the responsibility of leading the pack to Mohammed Siraj, he delivers differently. And those 4 wickets will do a world of good to Prasidh Krishna.

15 wickets in the day, most we've had all series. What a comeback from India after a bad first session, to bowl Eng out on 247 from 129/1 was a lion hearted effort from Siraj and Prasidh. Really like the intent Jaiswal came out with. Game set up nicely. #ENGvIND
