ENG vs IND, 4th Test Day 5 Highlights: India escape with a draw as Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Shubman Gill & KL Rahul stand tall under pressure.

Brief Scores: England 669 (Joe Root 150, Ben Stokes 141, Ravindra Jadeja 4/143) drew with India 358 & 425/4 (Ravindra Jadeja 107*, Shubman Gill 103*, Chris Woakes 2/67). England leads the series 2-1
In an intensely fought game, India secured a famous draw courtesy of centuries from skipper Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar on the final day of the match. England tried everything, but what stood between them and a win for them was a stunning unbeaten 203* stand between Sundar and Jadeja.
India lose Gill and Rahul in a closely fought first session, finishing at 223/4
The visitors resumed their defiance on the last day at 174/2, with both skipper Shubman Gill and KL Rahul within sight of their respective tons. Ben Stokes, who didn’t bowl last evening, opened the proceedings alongside Liam Dawson on the new morning.
Just as has been the case in the game, Stokes made things happen almost immediately. In his very second over, he trapped Rahul leg before the wicket on a delivery that kept a little low. Gill, however, continued to look good despite a challenging spell from Stokes. He got some good company from Washington Sundar and, along with him, added 34 runs in close to 17 overs.
In the process, Gill reached his fourth ton of the series, and one that could be a career-defining one for him. However, shortly after that, he lost his wicket to an ordinary delivery from Jofra Archer, who struck with the new ball. Then, India rode much-needed luck on the next ball, when Joe Root dropped Ravindra Jadeja at slips and went into lunch still behind by 88 runs.

India gain a slender 11-run lead in a wicketless second session
The rare guard action continued in the post-lunch session, and this time it was completely dominated by India. Runs came quickly, especially from the bat of Ravindra Jadeja as India added 27 runs in the first six overs of the session and the duo reached their 50-run stand in just 92 balls. This reduced the deficit swiftly, and both these spin-bowling all-rounders looked at ease, be it against pace or spin.
The pair got to their respective half-centuries and also brought up their 100-run stand in 184 balls. 44 runs coming in the second hour meant India added 99 runs in the session, but also got into a lead for the first time in the game.
Runs galore from the bat of Jadeja and Sundar, amid some drama
After securing a lead, India began the post-tea session on a positive note, adding 66 runs in the first 20 overs of the session. In the meantime, the pair brought up their 150-run partnership, and there was some drama out in the middle.
When Ben Stokes and England offered a draw, the Indian duo didn’t accept, intending to go for their respective centuries. While Ravindra Jadeja reached his fifth Test ton, Washington Sundar stormed to his maiden international century, and the duo reached a 200-run partnership.

With this draw, the series is nicely poised, and the teams will meet again on 31 July at the Oval. While England still leads by 2-1, India will go into the game with plenty of confidence, given the situation they were in on the fourth day. So, the series finale should be an exciting and cracker of a contest in London.

Proper captain’s knock from Shubman Gill. Despite all the criticism he has come on his own on this English tour.

If this is about Stokes offering a draw and wanting to walk off – These visuals are a win for India. This frustration on the face of a team who till three sessions back were probably hoping for a champagne celebration by now !! Make them bowl and enjoy this boys .. #EngvsInd

Washington Sundar batting in a position that he seems so naturally gifted to bat in for the rest of his career #EngvInd

Being in the field for 157 overs, 0/2, series on the line, incredible amount of skill, determination and character required to do what these champions have done. So much respect for fighting out a draw that feels no short of a win 👏🏻👏🏻 #ENGvIND pic.twitter.com/shmm4Gnnft
