Brief scores: India 587 (Gill 269, Jadeja 89, Bashir 3/167) & 427/6d (Gill 161, Jadeja 69, Tongue 2/93) lead England 407(Smith 184*, Brook 158, Siraj 6/70, Deep 4/88) & 72/3 (Pope 24*, Deep 2/36) by 536 runs at stumps on Day 4
Day 4 of the Edgbaston Test belonged to India as they outplayed the home team in all the departments. The wicket was as supportive as it could be and Shubhman Gill made no mistake in converting his early starts into a milestone. Along with him, it was KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja who contributed with impressive fifties.
Later, when the responsibilities came on to the bowling department, Akash Deep and Mohammad Siraj stood up as they gave a perfect start to the team.
Let’s take a look at how the three sessions progressed on Day 4 of the second Eng vs Ind 2025 series at Edgbaston
First session shared; Pant shine as two wickets fall
KL Rahul and Karun Nair started the fourth day at Edgbaston, with the latter looking uncertain in his shot selections. Before being caught at 26, Nair nicked a few edges and England bowlers took those signs. KL Rahul, on the other hand, played a composed innings, reaching his fifty with some beautifully executed cover drives. His shots were copied right from the coaching manual, demonstrating excellent technique.
After his departure, it was the captain and his deputy – Shubhman Gill and Rishabh Pant – who took over. Pant immediately signalled a change, injecting some much needed acceleration His intentions were quite clear from the start as he played aggressively, stepping out on the very first ball. He was fortunate, however, as he got two lifelines, surviving two dropped catches. Once on 10 by Zak Crawley and then on 31 by Chris Woakes.
Overall, after the first session, the pitch seemed favourable for India as the ball was coming nice onto the bat and there was minimal movement. Hence, India batters continued with their accelerated approach in the session post lunch.

Shubhman Gill & Rishabh Pant extend India’s lead
The two pillars of India – Shubhman Gill and Rishabh Pant – started the second session right where they left. They both charged and attacked the England bowling line up like they were playing in their own backyard. The England Team tried to contain them, but the pair remained undeterred, maintaining their aggressive play.
Rishabh Pant later departed after scoring a quick 65. Gill, on the other hand, smashed another hundred. It was a display of supreme focus and resilience as England bowlers did try to get under his skin, like when they repeatedly bowled him bodyline short balls. But the skipper had his methods to nullify their tactics.
Ultimately, India outplayed the home team as they managed to score 127 runs in the second session of Day 4.

Shubham Gill shatters records with another 150+ score
Shubhman Gill completed his second 150+ score of the match as Ravindra Jadeja played the role of second fiddle, scoring a fifty. At a commanding position, India finally declared their innings at 427/6, taking a lead of 607 runs.
After all the hard work by batters, the onus shifted to the bowling department. Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj gave the tourists the perfect start with two wickets by the end of the day. They made perfect use of the new ball and Aakash Deep’s ripper to Ben Duckett was a perfect example of that, as the ball came back in very sharply, making the batsman clueless.
What to expect on next day
India has a really great chance to level the series by 1-1. But for that, they need to be as effective as they were in the last session of Day 4. They already have tides in their favour, all the need now is to apply the strategies well.
England, on the other hand, will be going for a draw as chasing 536 is not a piece of cake. They’ll strategy will be to save wickets as any collapse can cost them the match now.
Overall, an exciting Day 5 is expected as both teams will fight hard to save the country’s pride.
