AUS vs IND 2025-26, 2nd ODI: India suffer another away series loss under Gautam Gambhir as Australia take a 2-0 lead.

Brief Scores: India 264/9 (Rohit Sharma 73, Shreyas Iyer 61, Adam Zampa 4/60) lost to Australia 265/8 (Matt Short 74, Cooper Connolly 61*, Arshdeep Singh 2/41) by 2 wickets.
Player of the Match: Adam Zampa (4/60)
Australia secured a thrilling two-wicket victory over Team India in the second ODI at Adelaide Oval, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Chasing 265, Australia overcame early setbacks with pivotal contributions from Matthew Short (74) and Cooper Connolly (61*), who guided the team home with composure. Despite India’s efforts, including key wickets from Arshdeep Singh and Washington Sundar, Australia managed to clinch the win with 22 balls to spare.
Talking Point: Australia’s dominance in middle overs
Australia’s middle-over bowling proved to be the turning point of the match. Adam Zampa and Mitchell Starc combined brilliantly to break India’s momentum just when Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer looked settled.
Starc removed Rohit at a crucial stage, and Zampa followed up with key wickets — dismissing Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Axar Patel, and later Nitish Kumar Reddy — ensuring India never fully recovered. His consistent strikes prevented India from building on their foundation, ultimately restricting them to a par total.

Rohit Sharma’s foundation, Harshit Rana’s late surge take India to 264/9
India’s innings in the second ODI at Adelaide was a mix of grit and recovery. Put in to bat, India lost Shubman Gill for 9 and Virat Kohli for a duck — his second consecutive failure — as Xavier Bartlett struck twice in the same over.
Rohit Sharma (73) and Shreyas Iyer (61) steadied the innings with a composed century stand before Adam Zampa (4 wickets) and Mitchell Starc sparked a collapse. Axar Patel’s fluent 44 and late cameos from Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh helped India reach 264/9 in 50 overs.
For Australia, Bartlett and Zampa shared seven wickets, while Josh Hazlewood bowled with great control but remained wicketless.
Fifties from Matt Short & Cooper Connolly power Australia to series-clinching win
Australia’s middle order held their nerves to seal a tense two-wicket win over India in the second ODI, clinching the series 2-0. Chasing 265, the hosts stumbled early as Arshdeep Singh removed Mitchell Marsh (11) and Harshit Rana dismissed Travis Head (28). Matt Renshaw and Matthew Short steadied the chase with a brisk partnership before Axar Patel and Washington Sundar struck in quick succession to bring India back into the game.
However, Matthew Short (74) and Cooper Connolly (61*), who registered his maiden ODI fifty, turned the tide with a crucial 55-run stand. Even after Short’s dismissal, Connolly kept his composure alongside Mitchell Owen (36) to guide Australia home. For India, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, and Washington Sundar picked up key wickets, but the bowlers couldn’t finish the job.

What’s next
Next, India and Australia will face off in the third and final ODI of the series on 25 October 2025 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. After losing the second ODI, India will be desperate to halt Australia’s momentum and avoid a clean sweep — looking to bounce back strongly and finish the series on a high.
A team that was winning and having dream runs in tournaments unbeaten has now lost a bilateral series against a largely second-string Australian team. Don’t forget this is our first assignment after Champions Trophy where we didn’t lose even once. What changed? Why? #AUSvIND

A player who’s a match winner and a lock-in in the playing XI for the World Cup should play every single game leading up to the WC if he’s in the squad irrespective of the conditions. Keep his confidence and rhythm going. #KuldeepYadav #AUSvIND
