T20 World Cup 2026: Hardik Pandya’s match-winning contributions underline why he remains India’s go-to player in high-pressure tournaments.

Among those who have scored 100+ runs at number five in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, Hardik Pandya has the second-best strike rate of 196.15. He has also collected the joint fourth-most runs (102) at this position in the campaign for an average of 51, thanks to six boundaries and eight sixes.
Hardik always brings the balance to the side, especially in ICC events. In his presence, India have the luxury of a proper power-hitter in the middle-order and an extra pacer, who can contribute at least three overs in an innings. And with experience, he understands the pulse of pressure situations.
Hardik Pandya brings balance with bat and ball in T20 WC 2026
Between the beginning of 2025 and the start of the ongoing T20 WC 2026, Hardik has been India’s second most successful batter in the middle order. Among batters between four and seven, he has collected 371 runs in 15 T20I innings at a strike rate of 157.87, with three half-centuries.
Even in the previous T20 WC 2024, the Baroda all-rounder was one of the biggest contributors with both bat and ball. He bagged 144 runs at a strike rate of 151.57 besides pocketing 11 wickets at an economy rate of just 7.64. The former captain, Rohit Sharma, trusted him with the responsibility of bowling the last over of the final with 16 runs to get against an inform David Miller.
Hardik has carried forward the same ability in the ongoing T20 WC 2026 in the all-round department. With the bat, the right-handed batter has collected 155 runs at a strike rate of 161.45, besides bagging five wickets at an economy rate of 8.42.
His presence has allowed India to field their to premier T20I pacers, Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah, with greater tactical freedom and balance in the XI. This combination has now been maintained across two successive World Cup campaigns, reflecting the stability and confidence in their pace attack.

Hardik Pandya shows intensity and keeps belief in skills
Hardik’s routine of bowling is quite different. In the Zimbabwe clash in Chennai, he bowled only three overs. Meanwhile, in the post-match presentation, he revealed how he would return to bowl his fourth over in the nets to hold the rhythm. Before the start of the game, he gave a motivational speech to all the players to keep their belief and put intensity into the process.
“For us, how we turn up today matters the most. (Show) Intensity, take pride in each other, take pride for the country you play for, and at the same time, make sure that all the crowd that you can see, they are here to get entertained by the Indian Team, and not by the individuals.” Hardik told in a video shared by the BCCI.
There was a tiny shift in his batting approach in the Super 8 fixture against the Sikandar Raza-led side. Before that, he was muscling the ball, whereas in Chennai, he looked to time the deliveries on most occasions.
His experience also counts in different phases of the game. On the penultimate ball of the innings, Hardik was already waiting deep in the crease against Brad Evans. He was well aware of the bowler trying to go for the yorker. And once Evans missed the blockhole, Hardik went under the ball and pumped it down the ground for a massive six. He followed it up with a one-handed six over backward square leg to celebrate his fifty in 23 balls.
India face West Indies in a virtual quarter-final on March 01 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata to stay alive in the event. And they hope Hardik to have another classic and successful evening with both bat and ball.
