IPL 2025, CSK vs PBKS Highlights: Chahal’s 4/32 and Shreyas Iyer’s fluent 72 power Punjab Kings to second spot in the points table.

Yuzvendra Chahal’s scintillating spell, claiming four wickets for 32 runs, coupled with Shreyas Iyer’s brilliant innings of 72 runs, propelled Punjab Kings (PBKS) to a dominant victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 49th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Wednesday.
The PBKS bowling unit, spearheaded by Chahal and ably supported by Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen, effectively curtailed CSK’s batting momentum, restricting them to a manageable 190. Riding on Iyer’s brilliance, PBKS sealed their sixth win in ten games in the ongoing 18th edition of the IPL.
Highlights from CSK vs PBKS game, IPL 2025
Sam Curran’s crucial hand
The English all-rounder Sam Curran injected much-needed vitality into what has largely been a forgettable IPL 2025 campaign for the Chennai Super Kings, delivering a gritty 88 off just 47 balls, with nine fours and four sixes, making it the franchise’s highest individual score this season.
Walking in at No 3 with CSK wobbling at 48/3, Curran anchored the innings with remarkable composure. He first stabilised the chase alongside Ravindra Jadeja and later built a crucial 78-run stand with Dewald Brevis, providing a solid platform for CSK in a must-win encounter.
Curran rotated the strike fluently, accelerated after the 10th over, and took on both pace and spin with equal confidence, offering the leadership CSK has sorely lacked this season. His innings came to an end in the 18th over when he edged a short ball from Marco Jansen to keeper Josh Inglis, the dismissal standing firm without a review.

PBKS pull things back in last three overs
CSK looked poised for a formidable finish at 164/4 after 17 overs, with Sam Curran in full flow and big-hitters like MS Dhoni, and Deepak Hooda yet to bat. A final score of 210–220 seemed inevitable. However, the script flipped dramatically as Punjab Kings’ bowlers orchestrated a sensational collapse in the final three overs, led by Yuzvendra Chahal.
Having gone for 23 runs in his first two overs, Chahal returned in the 19th over and delivered one of the most dramatic spells of IPL 2025, claiming four wickets for just nine runs, including a hat-trick in his third over. This marked the first hat-trick ever taken against CSK and only the second at Chepauk after L Balaji in 2008.
Chahal dismissed the ever-dangerous MS Dhoni and Deepak Hooda in the 19th over, but the turning point came just before that when Marco Jansen removed Sam Curran, who was threatening to take the game away. In the final over, Arshdeep Singh struck early to dismiss Shivam Dube, swiftly wrapping up the CSK innings.
From a commanding position, CSK crumbled, losing six wickets in the final three overs and eventually being bowled out for 190. This was only the fourth time in IPL history that CSK were dismissed entirely at their fortress, Chepauk.
Shreyas Iyer anchor chase to perfection
Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer exhibited remarkable composure and tactical brilliance as he anchored the chase against Chennai Super Kings with a fluent 72 off just 41 deliveries, laced with five elegant boundaries and four towering sixes.
He was ably supported by impact substitute Prabhsimran Singh, who chipped in with a brisk half-century. Iyer played a calculated knock, initially rotating the strike with singles and doubles while allowing Prabhsimran to dominate the scoring. Once his partner departed, Iyer shifted gears seamlessly, unleashing his full range of strokes and ensuring PBKS crossed the finish line with authority and confidence.

Way forward
With their eighth defeat in ten games, Chennai Super Kings have officially bowed out of the playoff race. In the remaining four matches, they may opt to test their bench strength and potentially play spoiler for other contenders.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings, led by Shreyas Iyer, clinched their sixth win in ten matches and now appear well-positioned for playoff qualification. Their disciplined bowling attack and Iyer’s commanding form with the bat would surely boost the team’s momentum and morale.
