In the final Super 8 clash of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will be a virtual quarter-final, two batting powerhouses, India and West Indies, will collide against each other. West Indies lead the six-hitting charts in the tournament with 66 sixes, while India are close behind in second place with 63 maximums.

Both the two-time champions are quite close in terms of smashing the boundaries during the event. The Blue Brigade and the Caribbean side have collected 85 and 83 boundaries, respectively. The Shai Hope-led side has operated at 152.46 in comparison to the Suryakumar Yadav-led side’s 149.23.

West Indies’ powerful batting faces Varun Chakravarthy challenge
One of the vital members of West Indies’ batting in this T20 WC 2026 is Shimron Hetmyer. The Southpaw is the leading run-getter at the number during this event with 221 runs at a strike rate of 182.64, thanks to two half-centuries.

Meanwhile, at number five, Sherfane Rutheford has gathered 133 runs at a strike rate of 195.59 in this tournament and has been dismissed only once. Rovman Powell and Hope, on the other hand, have been decent in patches. The former has managed 115 runs at a strike rate of 140.24, while Hope has pocketed 185 runs at 139.10.

West Indies have dominated the middle overs (7-15) in this event for an average of 50.80 and a strike rate of 156.79. They have continued the same aggression with a strike rate of 188.82 in the last five overs of the innings. However, the opposition can put the 2016 champions under pressure inside the first six overs, when they have lost 12 wickets at an average of 21.67.

West Indies’ batters vs Varun Chakravarthy & Jasprit Bumrah
West Indies have not been a successful T20I side against the leg spinners since 2024. They have lost 62 wickets in 36 innings against this type of bowler at an average of 19.58. And they will come up against Varun Chakravarthy’s spin web.

Hetmyer, who is yet to face the Tamil Nadu spinner in T20Is, has been dismissed twice against Chakravarthy in T20s for 16 runs in 17 balls. The other batters of the side, including Hope, Rutherford, and Powell, are not familiar with the leg spinner either.

In the powerplay, West Indies’ batting unit will be up against Jasprit Bumrah. Hetmyer has an alarming T20 record against the pacer, having been dismissed four times in 15 balls for only nine runs. Meanwhile, Axar Patel could prove handy against Hope, who has a T20I strike rate of only 111.90 against left-arm spinners.

India prepare against West Indies’ dynamic bowling attack
For India at number five, Hardik Pandya brings batting dominance with 102 runs at a strike rate of 196.15 in this World Cup. The management would be relieved after Abhishek Sharma’s fine 30-ball 55 against Zimbabwe. Ishan Kishan and Sky remain their two leading run-getters with 214 and 213 runs, respectively.

In this T20 WC 2026, India have struggled massively in the middle overs. During the nine-over period, they have lost 18 wickets at a strike rate of only 125. In the same duration, they have collected only 257 runs against spin at 21.42 and a strike rate of 122.38.

Fig 2: India’s batting breakup in T20 WC 2026

India’s batters vs West Indies’ bowlers
India’s batting unit will be up against veteran Jason Holder, who is the joint second T20I leading wicket-taker (11) for West Indies against the defending champions. Pandya will need to be careful against Holder, who has dismissed the Baroda batter three times in T20Is at a poor average of three.

Meanwhile, Kishan, yet to be dismissed against the former West Indies captain in T20Is, has bagged only nine runs in 16 T20I balls in this match-up. Subsequently, Sky will be delighted to face Romario Shepherd, having collected unbeaten 60 runs in 33 balls in T20Is. However, he is a little scratchy against the left-arm spinner, Akeal Hossain, getting dismissed once after scoring 59 T20I runs in 52 balls.

With the number of left-handed batters in the Indian side, Roston Chase is very likely to retain his place. He has a good record against Kishan, who has been dismissed twice in T20Is for a strike rate of 67.9 against the off-spinner.

Overall, the left-handed batter has struggled against the off-spinners with 10 dismissals in 15 T20I innings at a strike rate of 86.90. In the ongoing WC campaign, the Jharkhand wicket-keeper has an average of eight with four dismissals against the off-spinners.

India are unbeaten in four T20Is against West Indies at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. But this record won’t matter if they lose the Super 8 clash on March 01, 2026. The focus of the entire world remains on that particular clash. The winner will qualify for the semifinals; the loser will pack bags and head home.
