Two undefeated teams of Group A in T20 World Cup 2024, USA and India, took on each other in a first-ever time contest at the Nassau County Stadium in New York.

India skipper Rohit Sharma opted to field after winning the coin toss, and their bowlers made the best use of conditions available, restricting the hosts to 110.

USA made a strong start with the ball and put a lot of pressure on India, but India's batters' experience proved to be a key difference as they crossed the line comfortably in the end by seven wickets.

India became the third Team after Australia and South Africa to qualify for the Super Eight stage.

Key Takeaways from USA vs IND, Game 8, Group A, Winning Team (IND)

Surya - Shivam among the runs is a positive sign for India

India had a rough start to their chase, losing both their experienced openers, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, early on in the piece. The informed batter, Rishabh Pant, didn’t last for long either, as the hosts had India reeling at 39/3 in the eighth over.

They needed some sort of partnership to stem the fall of wickets and avoid a possible collapse. This is where Shivam Dube forged a match-winning unbroken 67-run stand with Suryakumar Yadav.

Both these batters weren’t among the runs coming into the game, and their scoring these tough runs will be ideal for India going into the Super Eight stage.

Indian bowlers hunting in Pack today

It was a field day for Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya with the ball. They picked six wickets between them and conceded just 23 runs in their cumulative eight overs. This is when Jasprit Bumrah, India’s bowling hero in the last two games, couldn’t open the account here against the USA.

Arshdeep gave India a sensational start by picking two wickets in his opening before Hardik held his own in the middle overs, bowling an economical spell. In the end overs, Arshdeep got into the act again, picking a wicket in each of his last two overs and ending with an impressive 4/9.

The duo’s bowling performance augers well for the team going further into the tournament.

Key Takeaways from USA vs IND, Game 25, Group A, Winning Team (USA)

USA showed a lot of guts in batting as well as bowling

After losing the toss and batting first, the USA was in all sorts of trouble after the Indian pacers made inroads into their batting. They could only manage 18 in the powerplays and 42/3 at the halfway mark.

We have seen teams collapse in this venue's second half of the innings, but the USA made a strong comeback. Thanks to some useful contributions in the middle order, USA crossed the three future mark and ended up posting a competitive 110/8.

In defense of a low score, USA bowlers showed a good account of themselves by removing Virat and Rohit cheaply. They allowed India to score just 47/3 at the 10-over mark, and only at the end did they seem to lose their grip.

In all, it was another eye-catching performance by the USA team despite being on the losing side.

Statistical highlights from USA vs IND, Game 25, Group A
  • This is the first time India and the USA have faced an international game.

  • Arshdeep Singh (4/9) registered his best figures in T20Is, and this is the second time he has taken four wickets in an innings.

  • This is also the best bowling performance by an India bowler in T20 World Cups.

What’s next to come

With this win, India maintained its unbeaten run in Group A, and they next take on Canada at Florida on June 15.

Despite a defeat, the USA has a great chance to qualify for the Super Eights, and they have to face Ireland in their last Group game at Florida on June 14. A win there would make them historic at the Super Eight stage.

In a highly anticipated game at Tarouba, West Indies will face New Zealand later in the day.
