Besides Rinku Singh, Ravi Bishnoi was another player who was handed the T20 World Cup 2024 snub despite featuring in most of the games leading up to the premier tournament. However, neither Rinku nor Bishnoi showed any disappointment in being snubbed and came out playing to their full potential in the T20I series against Zimbabwe.

Bishnoi has been the more successful of the two, as he has bowled excellently in the two matches. He has taken six wickets in 8 overs, conceding just 24 runs, bowling at an economy rate of just 3. These are incredible figures in the shortest format.

So, what is working for Ravi Bishnoi so far

Ravi Bishnoi has come back as a mature bowler after the World T20 snub. He has put the past behind him and worked on his bowling to fine-tune the edges. He has looked like a different bowler in the two matches against Zimbabwe. He has been disciplined with his line and length, giving no room for the batters to free their arms against his bowling.

What is important to note here is that apart from a great economy rate, he has conceded just one boundary and bowled as many as 32 dot balls out of 48 balls he has bowled in the two matches. It is thanks to Bishnoi’s bowling that India have managed to bowl out Zimbabwe in both games.

Earlier, Bishnoi, a leg-spinner, was more known to bowl googlies, often staying as a one-dimensional bowler. Now, he has added more variations to his armoury, making it difficult for the opposition batters to pick him up. He is not only a wicket-taking bowler but is also able to check the run flow in the middle overs with his accurate bowling.

Will Ravi Bishnoi get a long run?

India are set to look at young players who can serve Indian cricket for a long period. BCCI will be phasing out senior bowlers such as Yuzvendra Chahal as India will look to rebuild a new young team to compete and defend their World T20 title in the 2026 edition. If Ravi Bishnoi can continue his wicket-taking momentum, he can make a lot of noise for India to select him for the task of defending the crown.

With Chahal unlikely to get another game and Ravindra Jadeja retired, Bishnoi will look to form a spin combo with Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel for the World T20 2026. Bishnoi, Axar, or Kuldeep might take turns to play in the games leading up to the World T20 to keep themselves fresh. It will depend a lot on Bishnoi’s consistency leading up to the World T20 to book the bus for the next edition.
