Brief Scores: Delhi Capitals 150/6 (Warner 42, Powell 33*, Umesh Yadav 3/24) beat KKR 146/9 (Rana 57, Shreyas Iyer 42, Kuldeep Yadav 4/14, Mustafizur 3/18) by four wickets
Player of the match: Kuldeep Yadav for his 4/14
Delhi Capitals (DC) registered their fourth win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 4 wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. Both sides came into this match after suffering defeats in their last outings.
The likes of Kuldeep Yadav (4/14), Muatafizur Rahman (3/18) and Umesh Yadav (3/24) stole the show among both the teams, in what looked like a day out for the bowlers.
Put in to bat first, Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a stressful start, after having lost both openers - Aaron Finch (3) and Venkatesh Iyer (6) - cheaply. Debutant Baba Indrajith (6) and Sunil Narine (0) failed in contributing to the team’s total which reached 146/9 in 20 overs. For KKR, it was their overseas players who flopped with bat, as three of these batters players for ducks. However, a lone fight put up by Nitish Rana ensured they put up a humble total in the end.
Chasing 150 was not difficult for DC, but the early jolt, followed by crucial wickets from Umesh Yadav put them into a difficult situation briefly. However, Rovman Powell (33* off 16 balls) and Axar Patel ensured a safe-sailing victory with their late cameos to help DC beat KKR by 4 wickets. The game showed immense domination from the sub-continent bowlers and a remarkable innings from the KKR batter, Nitish Rana, which unfortunately went in vain.
Here are the top three performances from the DC vs KKR, 41st match, IPL 2022:
Kuldeep Yadav spins webs around KKR batters with 4/14
The former Kolkata Knight Riders chinaman bowler again proved lethal against his former team. Kuldeep Yadav caused havoc in the KKR batting lineup with another four-fer against them this season. KKR were struggling in the middle, after having lost both openers on single-digit scores and put 29/2 after the powerplay.
Kuldeep further dented the KKR batting line-up with his wicket-taking pursuit. Kuldeep started his hunt with the first scalp of Baba Indrajith (6), who departed on a single digit. Next to fall prey to his spin-blitz was Sunil Narine, who registered his second duck of IPL 2022.
KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer who played a pivotal knock for his side departed on 42 (37), as KKR’s innings failed to show resilience. KKR’s middle-order ammunition Andre Russell came in next, only to get stumped in attempting to outsmart Kuldeep who took his fourth scalp of the game. All in all, Kuldeep became the reason for KKR’s shortcomings twice this season with figures of 4/14 in this game and 4/35 in the last encounter, including the crucial wicket of the KKR skipper in both games.

Nitish Rana rescues KKR with a half-century
The left-handed batter came to the crease when KKR were struggling at 36/4 after 8 overs. Nitish Rana, who has had an average season so far, came in as a rescuer for the side. Rana, who had been opening for the side last season came in at four down in this match. The initial part of his innings was laced with singles and doubles, before he shifted gears following the skipper’s dismissal. He plastered a good run rate with Rinku Singh (23 runs off 16 balls) and got into a 62-run partnership with him.
Rana reached his 15th IPL half-century with a six over extra cover. The left-hander scored 57 runs off 34 balls and rebuilt KKR’s innings under tremendous pressure to take the team total to 146/9 in 20 overs, although that didn’t end in a winning cause.

Umesh Yadav kept KKR in the game with 3/24
Delhi Capitals were chasing a modest total of 150 runs for their 4th win, however, they too lost early wickets during the powerplay. Umesh Yadav got the ball rolling in KKR’s favour on the very first ball of DC’s innings. He dismissed Prithvi Shaw on a duck and broke the left-right opening batting combination of DC.
Delhi lost their third wicket on 82, in the form of David Warner, who by that time had settled and approached his 54th IPL half-century. He got dismissed by a Umesh Yadav bouncer as he got caught by Sunil Narine at fine leg for 42(26). Umesh eyed for another big fish - DC skipper Rishabh Pant - by sending him back to the pavilion cheaply on just 2 runs.
After losing Pant’s wicket, DC were reeling at 87/5 after 12 overs. During his spell, Yadav took three crucial wickets of the DC openers and their skipper and finished with 3/24 in four overs while maintaining a decent economy rate of 6 rpo.
