Jason Holder adjudged man of the match for his 3/19 and 47 off 29 balls including 5 sixes.
Punjab Kings 125 for 7 (Markram 27, Holder 3/19) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 120 for 7 (Holder 46*, Bishnoi 3/24, Shami 2/14) by five runs
It was a low-scoring affair at the traditional graveyard for bowlers in Sharjah as Punjab Kings successfully managed to defend their total of 125/7 against Sunrisers Hyderabad and won by five runs.
While chasing 126 runs, the SRH batters failed to take the advantage of the conditions in the second innings and the poor run of form continued for them. It was an exceptional performance by Punjab bowlers which led them to victory.
Jason Holder’s 3/19 restricts PBKS to 125/7
The West Indian Jason Holder who is part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise gave two quick blows in the fifth over by taking the wickets of both Punjab Kings openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal and put the opposition on the back foot. After the departure of the openers, there was no way back for the PBKS batters. Aiden Markram was a rare exception and came on to the crease after the fall of the openers and stood his ground to score 27 runs from 32 balls which included two fours.
Punjab Kings were eventually restricted to 125 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs as none of their batters managed to score big.
Ravi Bishnoi, Mohammed Shami pick of bowlers for Punjab
While defending the target of 126 runs, the PBKS turned in an exceptional bowling performance restricting the Royals to 120 runs from 20 overs with the loss of seven wickets. The Sunrisers allrounder Jason Holder and wicketkeeper bat Wriddhiman Saha were the only batters who scored runs and rest of the players struggled to make it to the score of more than 15 runs.
Out of 120 runs scored by Sunrisers Hyderabad, Jason Holder alone accounted for an unbeaten knock of 47 runs from 29 balls with five massive sixes and Saha scored 31 runs from 37 balls with a four.
The Punjab pacers bowled a tight line and length with pace bounce. Except Harpreet Brar and Nathen Ellis, all the bowlers were among the wickets.
All the bowlers were miserly in conceding runs. The bowling spells of DC bowlers are as follows - Mohammed Shami with 4-1-14-2, Arshdeep Singh with 4-0-22-1, Ravi Bishnoi with 4-0-24-3, Harpreet Brar with 4-0-25-0 and Nathen Ellis with 4-0-32-0.
