Young Sri Lanka opener Avishka Fernando emerges as top-scorer in the ODI series

Among batsmen from both teams, young Sri Lanka opener Avishka Fernando top-scored in this series with 159 runs. The 23-years-old player scored two fifties in this series, including a match-defining 76 (98) in the final ODI.

Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan amassed 128 runs in this series with a match-winning knock of 86* (95) in the first match. Sri Lankan batsman Charith Asalanka piled up 127 runs in this series. Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav won his maiden Player of the Series award in his debut ODI series, as he scored 124 runs in three matches with a vital contribution in every game. Indian swashbuckler Prithvi Shaw accumulated 105 runs with his eye-catching strokeplay.


Highest scores in ODI series



No century in the ODI series, Shikhar Dhawan’s 86* in the first ODI was the highest score

No batsman scored a century in this series, with Dhawan's 86-run knock leading the chart of top scores. Top runs-scorer of the series Avishka Fernando scored a match-winning 76 in the solitary win of Sri Lanka. Indian pacer Deepak Chahar struck an astonishing 69* (82) to win the second match for India from the jaws of defeat. Apart from the above, Sri Lankan youngsters Charith Asalanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa smashed one half-century each.

Most Wickets in ODI Series

As ODI matches of this series were not high-scoring, the bowlers did have a say in the series. Indian leggie Yuzvendra Chahal tops the charts of wickets with five wickets in just two matches while pacer Deepak Chahar bagged four wickets in two matches. Indian leg-spinner Rahul Chahar, Sri Lankan spinners Akila Dhananjaya and Praveen Jayawickrama took three wickets each in the third ODI.



Best Bowling Figures in the innings

Bowlers from both teams displayed some magical performances in this series, especially spinners from both teams. The Sri Lankan bowler who really troubled the Indian batsmen in the second ODI was leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga. He took 3-37 in his allotted 10 overs in the second ODI bowling out the vital wickets of Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan and Krunal Pandya and giving Sri Lanka a chance in the game.


Akila Dhanajaya and Praveen Jayawickrama claimed three wickets each in the same match. Indian spinners Chahal and Rahul Chahar also got a place in the list of top spells in this series. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the only pacer to pick three wickets in a single match of the series.


Highest Partnerships in ODI series

Sri Lankan pair Avishka Fernando and Bhanuka Rajapaksa joined hands to build a partnership of 109 runs in the last game of the series to help Sri Lanka get a consolation win. Shikhar Dhawan and Ishan Kishan got together to put up a blistering partnership of 85 runs in the first game of the series after a quickfire knock by Prithvi Shaw.


Avishka played a vital role in the partnership of 77 runs with another Sri Lankan opener Minon Bhanuka to give a solid start to Sri Lankan innings in the second game of the series.

The India vs Sri Lanka ODI series 2021 concluded yesterday with India emerging as victors by a margin of 2-1.

India will be playing a T20I series against Sri Lanka from July 25 to July 29. All the matches will be played at the same venue, R Premadasa Stadium.
