8 - This series saw eight debuts from both teams. Seven players from the India squad earned an ODI cap while Bhanuka Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka debuted in the first match of the series.
7 - India played seven debutants in this series which is a record for the Indian ODI side. The previous record was six freshmen in an ODI series against New Zealand in 1976.
5 - India fielded 5 debutants in the last match of the ODI series. The only other instance of this is when India handed a debut to 5 players in the same ODI was in 1980 against Australia at Melbourne on December 6.
2nd - Out of all newcomers, Indian wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan became only the second player across the globe to score fifties on debut in both ODI and T20I cricket. He smashed fifty on his T20I debut against England in the previous series. He struck his debut fifty in the first match of the series. Proteas player Rassie van der Dussen was the first player to achieve this feat in 2019.

59 – Ishan Kishan registered the highest score for an Indian wicket-keeper on ODI cricket debut in the first match of this series. Saba Karim was the previous record holder with 55 runs against Proteas in 1997.
2 – New India captain Shikhar Dhawan amassed unbeaten 86 runs on his ODI captaincy debut. This is the second-highest score by an Indian captain on captaincy debut. Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar holds the record of highest run-scorer on ODI captaincy debut when he scored 110 against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 1996.
6 - Team India made six changes in the eleven in the third match of the series. India made six replacements in the same ODI series previously in 1999 against Pakistan.
32 – In the third match of the series, all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham represented the Indian team for the first time. He becomes the oldest debutant for India at 32 years and 276 days since 1982. Rakesh Shukla was 34 years 226 days at the time of his Test debut in 1982 against Sri Lanka.
6000 - Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan achieved the 6000 ODI runs mark in 143 matches while playing a match-winning knock of 86* in the first match of the campaign.
4th - Dhawan becomes 4th fastest batsman to achieve this milestone as Proteas batsman Hashim Amla (123 innings), Virat Kohli (136 innings), Kane Williamson (139 innings) completed 6000 runs in less number of innings than Shikhar Dhawan(140 innings).
25th – Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan become the 25th ODI captain of India in this ODI series, as well, Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka will be the 25th player to don the leadership hat of the Sri Lankan team. In a significant coincidence, Ishan Kishan became the 25th gloveman of the Indian side in ODI cricket, while Sri Lankan wicket-keeper batsman Minod Banuka becomes the 25th player to do the same.
69 - Indian pacer Deepak Chahar played a match-winning knock of 69* runs at Number 8 in the second ODI against Sri Lanka. This is the second-highest score at Number 8 or lower by an Indian after Ravindra Jadeja's 77 against New Zealand in World Cup 2019.
7 - Deepak Chahar becomes the seventh player to score fifty at Number 8 position for India in ODIs.
84 - Deepak Chahar stitched a partnership of 84* runs with Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the second ODI, which is now the second-highest for the eighth wicket for India in ODIs, behind only a 100* runs partnership between MS Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar Kumar against Sri Lanka in 2017.
3 - Chahar-Bhuvneshwar’s partnership of 84* runs is the third-highest partnership in the successful ODI run chases. MS Dhoni -Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 100* runs partnership against the same opponent tops the chart.
9 - India defeated Sri Lanka in consecutive 9 ODI series. Pakistan tops the chart with 11 successive ODI series wins, while Team India has a record of 10 successive ODI series wins against West Indies.
93 – India won 93 ODI matches against Sri Lanka, which is the record for any team against an opponent in this format. Australia winning 92 ODI games against Kiwis and Pakistan winning 92 ODI games takes the second spot in the list
1 – Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya got out LBW first time in his ODI career in the third match of the series.
1 - Sri Lankan batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa struck his maiden ODI half-century in the third match of the series.
2 - Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka was dismissed twice on duck in ODI cricket, second duck in the third game of the ODI campaign.
11 - Shanaka has 11 ducks in international cricket after the last game of the series.
1 - Sri Lanka won the last match of the ODI series against India, the first win of Sri Lanka at home since July 2012 in ODI format.
10 – Sri Lanka won the first match after 10 losses against India at home.
2 - By winning the last match of the series, Sri Lanka won their second match this year out of 12 ODI games.
3 - Rahul Chahar registered third-best figures in ODI cricket for India since 2000. He bagged three wickets for 54 runs in the last game of the series, only Piyush Chawla (3-37) and Rahul Sharma (3-43) recorded better figures than Chahar on their debut.
1 - Suryakumar Yadav won his first ODI Man of the Series award in his debut series.
430 - Sri Lanka lost the highest number of ODI matches among all teams, 430 games. India with 428 losses sits at the second spot on the chart due to a loss in the last ODI match of the series.
