Player of the Match: Shubman Gill (112 of 102) Player of the Series: Shubman Gill (259 Runs)

With the series already sealed by India, the third ODI in Ahmedabad might have seemed inconsequential on paper. However, it served as the final match for both sides ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, making it a crucial fixture in their preparations for the big event.

India continued their dominant run, riding high on Shubman Gill’s brilliant century and fifties from the Shreyas Iyer-Virat Kohli duo to post a monumental 356. The target proved far too steep for the visitors, as India's bowlers decimated England to secure a commanding 142-run victory, completing a 3-0 series sweep.

Talking Point: Iyer’s form is India’s most crucial takeaway

While he has been overlooked in the other two formats, Shreyas Iyer remains an indispensable part of India’s ODI setup. The right-hander has made the No. 4 slot his own and has been in tremendous form this season.

After an impressive run in domestic cricket across formats, Iyer carried his form into this ODI series. In the first match at Nagpur, his 36-ball 59 turned the tide in India’s favour during the chase. At Ahmedabad, he kept India going through the middle overs with his attacking style of play. His 64-ball 78 provided the perfect launch0 pad for India to accelerate in the death overs. Read More: IND vs ENG, 2nd ODI, 2024-25: Rohit roars back to form with 90-ball 119; India win series

Gill’s century propels India to massive score

Batting first for the first time in this ODI series, India didn’t have the desired start as Rohit Sharma departed early, courtesy of a beauty from Mark Wood. However, the second-wicket pair of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli resurrected the innings with a 100-run stand in 96 balls. While Gill registered his third fifty-plus score of the series, eventually converting it into a century, Kohli (52) progressively grew in confidence during his 55-ball stay.

Shreyas Iyer once again looked at ease, forging a 104-run partnership with Gill for the third wicket. Both seemed set for big scores but fell against the run of play to Adil Rashid. A quick-fire cameo from KL Rahul (40 off 29) helped propel India to a massive total of 356.

India bowlers complete series whitewash

Chasing a daunting target of 357, England openers Ben Duckett and Phil Salt got off to a flying start, hammering 60 runs in the first six overs. This marked their fourth consecutive 50-plus stand in ODIs, with Duckett particularly aggressive, striking four boundaries off Arshdeep Singh. However, the left-arm pacer had the last laugh, dismissing Duckett a couple of overs later.

Arshdeep struck again in his very next over, removing Salt as England ended the powerplay at 84/2. Tom Banton and Joe Root built a decent 44-run stand, but spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel struck in quick succession to dismiss them. England lost their way, losing wickets at regular intervals. Harshit Rana and Hardik Pandya picked up two wickets each, dismantling the lower order as England collapsed from 60/0 to all out for 214.
