Brief Scores: ENG 339/9 (Stokes 108, Malan 87, De Leede 3/74) beat NED 179 (Nidamanuru 41*, Moeen 3/42, Rashid 3/54) by 160-runs.

The player of the match is Ben Stokes (108 runs in 84 balls).

England’s heavy victory in this game kept their Champions Trophy 2023 hope alive. Even though they struggled slightly in the middle overs, Ben Stokes glued their batting. Eventually, the target was too far to reach for the Dutch side.

Already eliminated from the CWC 2023, England came into this game with five straight defeats against the Netherlands. Both sides met at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

England has won in all six ODIs head-to-head.

Talking point: Buttler’s poor run of form puts England on the backfoot

With the bat in hand, Jos Buttler hasn’t looked in touch for the tournament. In his eight games, he managed 111 runs at an average of 13.87. That puts pressure on his captaincy, and eventually, England finds themselves in the backfoot for the tournament.

England kept Champions Trophy 2025 hope alive with 160 run victory

England captain Jos Buttler, on winning the toss, opted to bat first on a good batting surface. The Netherlands brought Teja Nidamanuru in the eleven, while Harry Brook and Gus Atkinson returned for England.

England went off to a flying start thanks to Dawid Malan’s incredible hitting to reach 133/2 in the 21st over; Netherlands picked up quick wickets to slow them down to 194/6 in 36 overs. But the 129-run seventh wicket stand brought them back to end with 339/9 in the allotted 50 overs.

The Netherlands was hardly in the chase and mostly looked to survive, reaching 115/5 in 26 overs. The 59-run sixth wicket stand stretched them over 150 before being bundled out for 179 in 37.2 overs.

Stokes soaked up the pressure with a 108-run knock

Ben Stokes hasn’t looked in his primary touch for this CWC 2023, but he put England in a healthy position from the middle over disasters.

He took some time at the start before driving Paul van Meekeren through covers for his first boundary. After pulling Bas de Leede in the square for another four, he whipped de Leede over mid-wicket for six to bring up his fifty, which mostly came on singles & doubles.

He took on Aryan Dutt in the 45th over for three sixes, with one of them launched over long-on. He hoisted de Leede for another six straight down the ground before ramping him in the third man for a wise boundary. A reverse sweep in the third man for a four took Stokes to his fifth ODI century.

He ended with 108 runs in 84 balls, shouldering on six boundaries and six over boundaries, and now he has 3379 ODI runs in 113 games.

After driving van Beek straight down the ground, Malan again clubbed him for three consecutive fours to bring up his seventh ODI fifty in 36 balls.

After slog sweeping Roelof van der Merwe for a six at deep backward square leg, he smashed him over deep mid-wicket for a six. He was finally dismissed on 87 in 74 balls with the help of 10 fours and a couple of sixes to have 1419 ODI runs in 29 games.

He cleared deep midwicket for a six before ramping de Leede over short third man to celebrate his sixth ODI fifty. He managed 51 in 45 balls with five fours and one six.

He also picked up the early wicket of Max Odowd (5), who chipped the ball straight to mid-on. Woakes finished with 1/19 in seven overs and now has 1520 runs and 172 wickets in 121 ODIs.
